Things I want to Buy / Looking for a 20 pole generator
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:09:39 PM »
I am looking for a 20 pole "pancake" alternator.  This would to be direct driven by a RH engine.  Needle in a haystack I know, but you guys are far reaching and quite resourceful.  These were used in mines, driven by steam engines, or as a part of a hydro-electric system.  A motor would be acceptable as I could turn it into a generator.

Everything else / Lister Forum Gathering/Engine show
« on: January 26, 2012, 05:06:13 PM »
I have been showing engines at the Oblong engine show for the past few years;

http://www.theonlyoblong.com/antique_engine/

Butch Cherrington brought over his two beautiful engines last year as did Tom Jambowitz.  We had a nice gathering of British iron that probably has never before happened on this side of the pond.

I have talked to Paul (Contracreek) and Butch (38AC) and we are testing the waters to see if there is interest in gathering on a larger scale.  This show is in early August and that would be the place to gather.  I am offering my place as a gathering spot.  I am about 50 minutes away from Oblong.  This is a nice friendly show with a nice collection of larger permanant display engines.

I have a call into the Oblong show folks to run this past them.

Your thoughts?

« on: December 13, 2011, 10:14:29 PM »
I am posting for my friend James who has no internet access.  He has an Amish customer that needs a VA blower housing.  That is the extent of the information I have.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.  PM or post a reply and I'll pass the information along.

Thank you,

Bob

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Petter CJ4 for sale
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:04:17 PM »
My friend James in Arthur, Illinois informed me of a Petter CJ4 engine for sale locally.  4 cylinder, air cooled, ~40hp.  Overhauled 10 years ago, heads rebuilt 2 years ago.  Now needs rings, using oil.  Bell housing and flywheel, electric start, no alternator.  $250 picked up in Arthur, Illinois.  The engine was swapped for a Deutz and is now surplus.

I have no commercial interest.  I am posting this on his behalf.  PM me for contact details.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Fresh Barn Find
« on: October 09, 2011, 09:26:24 AM »
This 1969 Lister 6-1 came up at an estate sale.  It ran an air compressor at an Amish farm until 3 years ago when the original owner passed away.  Once you get past the crime and crude radiator arrangement, the heart and sole is in pretty good shape.  She started to clean up after a bath.

Upon initial inspection, we found the splash pan to be missing.  Found it in the engine shed.  It was headed for the trash as they had no idea what it was.  Got the muffler too.

It has been spoken for and will be heading to a friend near Columbus Ohio.

Everything else / Portland Show 2011
« on: August 26, 2011, 02:44:23 PM »
I was able to spend a day at the Portland show again this year.  My friend and I rented a golf cart and that was a huge advantage.  We covered every row once and most of them twice.  I did not see one Lister there!  In the display areas as well as the sales area.  Nope, not one Lister or Listeroid, of any model there.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Oblong Illinois Engine show, 2011
« on: July 05, 2011, 04:24:45 AM »
Again I'm planning to go to the Oblong engine show and bring some Listers.  If all goes well, Butch, from Ohio, will bring his beautiful Bamford and 6-1 Lister that has been restored.  I'll have the VA compressor and others.  What is unique is that 3 of these engines were purchased at the George Helmuth estate sale last November.  Others went through his shop one time or another.  James, Georges son, will be with us.  That has to be a source of pride seeing a piece of his Dad legacy carrying on.

If you are able to make it, please stop by and say hello.  Dates are Aug 12, 13, 14

Original Lister Cs Engines / Looking for .040 oversize piston
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:49:32 PM »
I have been stalled on my VA project because I thought the engine was mechanically louder than it should be.  I finally pulled the piston and discovered way too much piston to cylinder clearance.  It will take a .040 oversize to get things back to size.  Central Marine only had stock size.  This is a VA so it has an air cooled cylinder.  Sleeving could be a possibility if all else fails.

Any one have a .040 o/s piston and ring set on the shelf?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister VA Project
« on: November 13, 2010, 02:25:15 PM »
The VA picked up at the Helmuth sale is doing well.  It needs a job to do so I was thinking about this.  I scored a nice heavy 120 gal ASME air tank.  I an thinking about putting the VA up on top along with a Quincy 350 or 370 compressor head.  The combined mass will be about 1600 lbs.  Not sure if this will be enough mass to run without excessive vibration.  Only one way to find out I guess.  Nick is expressing his concerns

Everything else / Next project?
« on: September 01, 2010, 01:03:04 PM »
In the last 20 months, since my hand accident and recovery, employer closing, and job search.  I have been able to get thru a number of projects in my shop.  Old ones that were lingering and new ones too.  There were the Reid engines, the Domestics, a 12-2 Lister, the Bantam tractor rebuild, two ice cream freezers (Big Mack and Little John), painting of Stronghold cabinets, and others.  I have another one pending but on indefinite hold due to waiting for a major piece of the project.  So what is next?  Still trying to sort it out.  If I have to move it will be a huge undertaking to rebuild the shop.  That is why i have been getting loose ends tied up.

What is on your next project list?

Everything else / Lister Logo
« on: August 24, 2010, 02:50:20 PM »
I scanned in the large Lister logo and have created a DXF file from it.  If any of you have access to a plasma or waterjet cutter, you can make a nice cutout of the text.

Email me @ rleonard@consolidated.net and I can send the file.  I do not think that I can attach a DXF file to the post.

Original Lister Cs Engines / VA Injector may be needed
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:01:06 AM »
I have a lead on a VA.  It looks to be in good shape but will need the treatment of a general overhaul.  Missing is the injector.  They are different from the CS because there are cooling fins on it.  It will be October until I see if I get it but I know that this has been robbed.  Any leads on a replacement?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Oblong Illinois Engine show

I am taking several Listers and other hardware to this show on Aug. 13 & 14.  If any of you guys are there, please stop by and say hello.

I'd like to do the Portland, IN show.  Listers are seldom seen there.   I am not set up for camping so accommodations are an issue.

I will probably head over for a day on the 18th or 19th.
