This project has been lingering for some time.  This 16-2 had a split crankshaft and lots of hours on it.  It was a ground up rebuild that requires attention at every level.  It was completed last week.  This is a client's engine and will hopefully be paid for and returned to the owner.  If they have abandoned the engine, it will be for sale here.

The main parts that were replaced were the crankshaft, all bearings (except cam bearings), injectors, pumps, governor linkage, and gaskets.  When it came in it was a heap of parts scattered on two pallets.  Pistons and rings had just been replaced before the crankshaft broke and were like new, so they were not replaced  It is bored .010 over.  It is a nice engine now.

General Discussion / Mars One Way (Lister content!)
« on: March 07, 2014, 10:26:59 PM »
This video just came out on the "selection" of people considering a one way trip to Mars.  I do not think that any of them are qualified one bit and their comments hint of some serious issue;

At any rate, the guy with the bees is shown oiling the valves and starting up his Lister(oid?)  Is he a member here?

I really hate to part with it, but only to fund another project, I am selling a fully restored and rebuilt Lister 12-2 with heavy flywheels.  This is a very nice piece that was found in rare condition.  So many times I have seen hammered on valve tappets and vice gripped nuts.  Nothing like that here.  This is a fine and excellent example that has received many complements.  Sale is for the engine only.  Cooling tank not included.

You have watched my restoration process here on the forum;

Available in Central Illinois for pickup or can ship.  Will ship for $250 crating and all costs.

$5250.

Generators / Our turn for a long power outage
« on: August 17, 2012, 02:16:35 PM »
Straight line winds or a possible tornado went through the area yesterday.  Power went out about 4PM.  I pulled the Onan DJB up to the house and plugged it in.  Ran all evening up to just after the news then I shut things down.  Still no power this AM so back on home made power.

I would have much rather used the Lister or RH.  The RH is now semi permanent back in the shop and the Lister is not here and is in storage.

Have used maybe 3 gal of diesel so far.

I was up at 3 to let the dog out.  In the quiet I could hear off in the far distance a screaming generator.  I wonder how many times he got up to refill it?

General Discussion / Fuel on hand
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:26:22 AM »
Out of curiosity, how much diesel fuel do you guys typically have on hand?

I normally go through about 120 gallons/year of straight ODR (off road diesel) for the mowers, generator, tractor, and so on.  With the current political situation I believe that I should have more on hand.  I'll probably get some 55 gal drums, fill, give them a shot of stabilizer and seal them up.   I use more in the truck but that is pump diesel.

For our ORD, we can get either straight or bio diesel.  I always get the straight and do not have to worry about decomposition.

Your thoughts?

General Discussion / In Memorandum

At our Lister engine displays at the Oblong engine show in Oblong Illinois, my friend Doug Basham helped immensely to put our display together.

Doug passed away in his sleep last night.

I'll miss my friend.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Somebody Stop Me!
« on: March 22, 2012, 01:40:38 PM »
A Z4 Bamfords showed up last week.  Identical to Butch's engine.  These are a fairly scarce unit, at least here in the states.

It was stuck, but now free.  Injector pump frozen, now in process of being repaired.  No pictures yet but will post something soon.

This nice Ruston Hornsby 3CR Elevator engine was owned by Jim McIntyre in Indiana.  He has moved on to other projects and the engine has landed at my shop.

And finally home, safe and sound

Things I want to Buy / Looking for a 12-2 Lister CS Crankshaft
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:48:59 PM »
My friend James, has a customer that has a twin with a broken crankshaft.  It is supposed to be at his shop in a week or so for repair.  He is looking for one to get his customer back up and running.

I was looking for one a couple of years ago and Mike Montieth had one.  Efforts to reach him again have been unsuccessful.  Central Marine has one but it is for TRB.  Not sure of the difference.  Dan there had another customer that tried to install one in an original CS but it would not fit without changing the bearing housings.  They are something that would have to be shipped from India.

I have a broken one that could have the end shaft replaced, but that is not something that James wants to sell to a customer and guarantee it.

Any help out there?

Bob

I swapped the ST5 for a Kato brushless AC generator.  ST5 is available for sale.
