Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Radiator Setup for 10/1 Lovson
« on: September 22, 2017, 04:32:34 PM »
After going through Irma and her after effects, I have decided to go to the 'Cooling Tank /Thermo-Siphon' method of cooling.  My rig ran for over 100 hours with no serious problems - just some "teething and break-in" minor issues.  I used an after market radiator for a ford mustang with a cooling fan (added the fan during the outage - overheating).  After adding the radiator fan with a really nice thermostat/relay controller,  the radiator worked flawlessly - 'til the battery died.  That said, I still want to go back to the utter simplicity of a cooling tank, which is the way Mr. Lister intended for these units to be cooled.  My goal is total simplicity, reliability and 'bullet-proofness' (is that a word?).  I may even remove my electric starting system (which worked great - until the battery died!  I failed to re-adjust the voltage regulator after adding the radiator fan - minor fix) -- Hand cranking is very easy.
Anyhow, all of this stuff is for sale - all of it was purchased new within the last 6 months.  I 'm only trying to get some of my money back - so those interested, get back to me and we'll talk.   ---- Charlie (352)201-4473

I just didn't want to get all wound up in my work -- so to speak!  It's just a piece of expanded metal and some Insulation tube - pretty simple. --- Charlie

Hi, Bruce -
Yes, I used a Starter/Generator for a golf cart.  Worked well, for a while -- when I was only charging it's battery - but when I added the cooling fan to the radiator (with a thermostat/relay) the draw went up by 7 amps and I didn't have the voltage regulator adjusted to account for the added draw - soooo,  dead battery!  I disconnected the system for the time being ('til the power comes back on - hand cranking) - then I'll play around with adjusting the voltage regulator to get the correct charge rate - at my leisure!  It's hot as hell and the generator is still going strong.  Day 6 - 110 hours!

I am a new member - living in Hernando, FL.  I have lived on boats and Islands for many years so am pretty well versed in diesel engines and generators.  I met and fell in love with my first Lister while living on North Captiva Island, FL in the 70's.  I lived in the Bahamas for the better part of 22 years, where having a backup generator is a necessity -- More Listers.  When I moved to Hernando in 2009, I bought another backup generator - not a Lister. --- But the Lister longing was still there.  Last year, I found a Lovson Listeroid in Texas.  It was made in 2007 and had less than 30 hours on it.  I mated it with an ST 7.5 KW head and mounted it in my garage.  It runs at 720 RPM.  After some minor teething problems it's now running just fine.  I started it up on Monday noon, Sept. 11th after Irma came through here as barely a category one - and it has been running (not continuously) for about 90 hours, now with no serious issues - just a few more teething problems.
From what I read about the Listeroids, Lovson is one of the better manufacturers - and I believe it.  I was able to contact the company and they have been very supportive- answering questions and providing a few parts.
It's Sept 16th at 5 PM and still no power --- except for the Listeroid chugging happily away in my garage!   ----- CHARLIE
