Listeroid Engines / crack in 6/1 head
« on: October 19, 2021, 11:42:31 AM »
Hi all

My new to me 6/1 has a crack in the head water jacket, not sure how to go about fixing this. It would be great if a bit of jb weld would stop the leak, but my thought are to take the head to a machine shop and see what can be done.

Any thoughts..thanks

Lister Based Generators / Need help with generator head
« on: September 08, 2021, 12:18:46 AM »
Just picked up this Lister 6/1 generator setup, anyone have any ideas how to get this generator to output power or test. Not sure if it is missing a dog house and parts needed to output power. Could not find any info on the web, looks similar to a two stator kato gen head. There is also no place on the crankshaft for a starter handle, so I am guessing this generator head also acts like a starter also..

 thanks..

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister CE endplay adjustment
« on: July 31, 2021, 11:25:15 AM »
Hi all

After reassembly of the 1950 Lister CE there is resistance to getting the flywheel moving, once the the wheels start to move it is smooth. It starts fine and runs well, when the engine is coming to a stop it seems to bind when the wheel are just about to stop moving.

This engine seems to have been given a complete rebuild in the distant past and then left for at least 20 years. Ring gap is perfect, cylinders sleeves look new, no ware on lifter springs, main bearings look new. I replaced the rod bearings and checked the tolerance with plastic gauge.

So I not sure if it is normal for the engine to be stiff to get moving, or did I miss a step on reassembly. I did not see any way to adjust the endplay, I loosened both side covers and backed them off a mm and it did not make a difference.

 Any thoughts..

 Thanks..

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister CE rod bearings
« on: October 28, 2020, 02:06:21 PM »
Hi
Anyone know of a source for rod bearings (23/220) for a lister ce. Not sure if other models, like a jp would work. Also has anyone had these bearings rebabbited and what the cost would be..

Thanks..

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister CE decompression changeover damage
« on: October 23, 2020, 04:18:53 PM »
Hi all..
I have purchased a 1950 lister CE and am in the process of dissasmbaly and have found a exhaust valve and seat that are pitted badly. From what I can figure is the opening to the expansion chamber in the changeover has been blown out, and the debris damaged the valve and seat. I have a new set of the shafts but not the half bowl that makes the expansion chamber. Not sure if I should use the new shafts without replacing the half bowls, as the old shafts would be mated to the old bowls.. Also not sure if the bowl part of the expansion chamber is similar to other model lister...
I have attached some pics of the bowls of each cylinder,

To me it looks like the damage has been done, could it be run like this..

Any Ideas.... Thanks..

Listeroid Engines / Idler gear wear pics
« on: December 06, 2019, 12:54:31 AM »
Hi
I have replaced the bearings in the metro, and installed a bronze idler gear. This is a new to me Metro with low hours I believe... I ran it for a few hours with the original steel idler gear and found lots of metal on the magnets, some of the metal looked like small wood shavings.

Now with the bronze idler gear I am finding lots of suspended bronze in the oil. I have read on the subject and my guess is that the backlash is either too tight on a gear or to loose on another. I can not hear any noise from the gears while running. Any chance you could tell from the pictures whether I should run the engine and let the bronze idler settle in or should I come up with another fix.

Thanks.. Dave..

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid Metro 6/1 TRB bearing.. Replace or run..
« on: December 01, 2019, 12:20:22 PM »
Hi

Not sure if these bearings can be run in this condition, all the research I could come up with seems to point to that these bearings seldom fail.

 Run or replace.... Thanks..

Engines / Cracks in piston insert
« on: January 14, 2018, 06:38:38 PM »
Hi

Is it normal for lister pistons to have cracks in the steel inserts in the piston tops. I have a Lister sl3 and have noticed all three pistons have multiple crack in the steel insert in the pistons.

Lister Based Generators / lister fatboy voltage sag
« on: November 29, 2017, 11:48:40 PM »

I have a mid 50's 2kw fatboy, no load voltage of 133v-62hz and with a 10amp load voltage drops to 110v-60hz. It is 8 dc brush head, 4 large brushes and four smaller. The 4 smaller brushes are connected to two wires these are the are attached to a resistor. I was under the impression that the resistor connected to the smaller brushes was to adjust for voltage drop, it seems to be providing all the current for excitation. If the resistor is disconnected voltage drops to 2v. When the generator is outputting voltage it is producing 20vdc from the ssf winding.

 Any thoughts...Thanks

Generators / 1959 FR3 with Kato Head
« on: November 25, 2017, 09:14:14 PM »
Looking at maybe purchasing this generator setup, it's a 1959 Lister FR3 with a Kato generator and a Mechron power panel. The tag on the generator head lists it as 115V and 122amp. This to me could be the deal breaker, as a backup generator I would never need 122amps at 115v, mini split heater and water heater need 220v.

Do you think this generator head could be configured for 120/220v. Or is there a way to transform to 120/220v.

Already have a Lister sr2 with a kohler 6.5kw head and a Lister sl1 2000w 120v for backup power.

I would pass on this Lister FR3 setup but the guy wants less then 1k for it. So I am trying to find a need for it, save it from the scrap yard.

Any thoughts...Thanks..
