Lister Based Generators / Re: Advice on generator type
« on: February 19, 2018, 08:54:35 AM »
Hey Johndoh

That's probably a good generator - and excuse me for pointing this out if you have already grasped it - but it's a single-bearing unit which is designed to use the crank bearings of the motor it is attached to as another bearing at the "flange" end.

While it can be modified to operate as an "open-drive" unit with a shaft and pulleys etc - it's quite a bit of work and I'm not sure how durable conversions like that are long-term either

IMHO that would be why it is cheap?

Just my $0.02 worth.  Cheers

IMHO the 125mm flap disc on the battery angle grinder is just the perfect tool for giving mower blades a touch-up

Snow load from the last storm bent the stamped galvanized steel fromwork supporting the neighbour’s 10Kw ground mount system. Will obtain some images and post .

Nothing made from that stamped, punched galv tin is worth having if there is real work to be done . . .

I always love this bit in these sale/auction descriptions (and it's always there, in some guise or another):

Quote
Hasn't run for some years but was running when put in the shed so would go with a little bit of a clean up.

Yeah, sure mate. It's been parked upside down in 10ft of seawater for 40 years but yeah - a bit of spit & polish and fresh diesel and I'm sure she'll run. Thats why I haven't bothered of course, I'm clean out of diesel. And spit.

Yeah.  Kinda, sorta . . . but in this case I reckon NZ$400 isn't a bad gamble anyway - think about a couple of hundred Guineas . . .   The one recently advertised for $1200; THAT was a bad deal :)

(edited by AdeV to fix quoting)

No bids.  Probably not surprising at that price.

Much better deal is this one in northland

Hot down there on the coast?  It's sunburn and midges here.  Cheers

And Mike, wishing you  a good new year. Ours started with a drought, now massive flooding as Im doing roof repairs in the pissing rain.... never any roof problem when its fine.
That Lister just may sell. I got $450 for a similar unit, the cost of the hyab to lift it $150, and whatever the freight to southland was, Im guessing another 2/300., so already around the thousand. The spoked flywheels seem more popular with the show people, so maybe that may sway it too.

All the best for 2018, mate. and thanks.

This chap tells me he has a bulldozer pump he was using for irrigation.  Last I saw people were still using and rebuilding those old pumps and the old milking machine services guy here had parts or them.  Wouldn't surprise me if the pump would sell the motor, if you know what I mean

Been a drought here - us irrigation folks ( aka the devil's spawn) here are rushed off our feet

I will keep an eye on that 3/1 yes

Cheers

Will watch with interest

As always, I takes my hat off to you big guys.  I'm just trying to turn a shed into a house, play with my grandkids, tinker with my Camrys, enjoy the sunshine, battle the gorse . . .
