When I first read Casey's post the old movie with the theme song "Dueling Banjo's" sprang to mind

Death to all mud wasps.

I second that.  Huge problem with them here in S.Africa.  All my spare electrical conduits, alu ladder rungs, any hose lying around, even the clothes in my wardrobe are plugged with mud.  Hate the buggers

Mud wasps ruined the stator windings in my 7hp electric compressor motor. Built a nest in there and shorted out the windings, the little bastards.  Rewind cost estimate was more than replacement.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Exhaust joints
« on: January 28, 2019, 09:10:45 AM »
I had the same issue.  I used the highest temperature silicone I could find at the time- the copper doped high temp stuff, Permatex I think.  Took it apart and gooped the joints. That did the job.

That's what I did.  The Cu silicone gasket sealer works perfectly and have had no leaks for more than 2 yrs.  You could also put an exhaust clamp around the joint and fasten tightly.  Unless your pipe is 3mm (1/8") wall thickness, this will crimp it on.

Bob, that would be great, please find the time.  From reading this thread, it would seem that the Brush unit is pretty much the same thing as my Hoffberg, and i would really like to know more and upgrade/modernise the thing.

Hi Ed, good to see you're back.  There is someone on the forum by the name of Jackie who lives in your area and needs your expertise.  Don't know if he/she has been in touch with you.  I sure wish you lived closer to me.

That long serial number should tell you what model Lister you have.  Post that number here and I'm sure someone will give you all the details.

Just a little bit of useless information seeing as you guys are talking temperature.  To get the degree (°) symbol in any windows program, hold down the Alt key and type 0176.  Same goes for square and cube symbols, Alt0178 and Alt0179

Jackie, you are lucky.  EdDee on this forum is a genius and he lives in EL.  I'm sure he can help you if he pops his head up.

Hi Dax021, would it have anything to do with stupidity, accountants overruling engineers, shortening engine life expectancy and corporate greed?

Bob

Nailed it Bob, at least as far as I know.  Your last 3 answers all boil down to more $$$$$, and your first answer is how they accomplish this-by relying on the stupidity of most consumers.  A mate of mine worked in a refinery and he used to tell me how the first few thousand cans on the conveyer were one brand, the next thousand another brand and so on.  All out of the same vat.  Same as petrol.  All comes from the closest refinery, regardless of brand.  Each brand is supposed to add their own additives once in the tanker, but very often this part just gets neglected.
