Thanks,

These are all awesome suggestions. I will definitely blow a fan on the radiator, good idea. I will plug in my kilowatt / frequency meter and have her watch it.

I appreciate the help. I will sleep good tonight.

Best,

Jim

PS. The head is a 7kw.

Lister Based Generators / Concerns About My First Real Test
« on: September 11, 2018, 01:10:10 AM »
Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are well.

I installed a Powerline 10/1 about 6 years ago and I may finally have the opportunity to give it a real test.  I could not have gone this far without the help of the nice folks on this forum.

We may be getting hit by a hurricane here in NC and may be without power for several days. I have never run the generator longer than about an hour so I am a little hesitant to run it 24 / 7 especially during the times that I am not there to monitor it. My wife will be there.  I have never run more than a couple of baseboard heaters in order to exercise the generator and now I am going to run lights, computers, TV, fans, freezer, refrigerator, etc. I understand about managing load because I install generator transfer kits for a living. I am mostly worried about the generator getting hot, about it suddenly cutting off and damaging electronics, about it catching on fire (it is in my garage).
Should my biggest concern be the generator overheating? I believe that I measured 200+ degrees on the generator once. I have a huge liquid radiator mounted a little higher than the generator however I do not have a circulator.
Should I take steps to protect the electronics in the house? That would mean protecting most everything because about everything has a PC board in it.
I once damaged the board on our gaspack one freezing cold winter when I did not give the gas generator enough time to warm up. Once it warmed up the setting of the throttle was mismatched and the generator cut off. When that happened it damaged the gaspack.
The generator has a 7kw head, is there a way to estimate how many gallons of fuel it will consume? This way I can refill the tank before it runs out.

Thanks for letting me put my thoughts on paper. If you would not mind making a recommendation or two I would appreciate it.

Best regards,

Jim

Engines / Re: Engine Wont Start

Well, I removed the air filter, sprayed some starter spray inside the manifold and she cranked up. I guess the lesson learned is to run these puppies weekly.

Thanks,

Engines / Engine Wont Start

Hello,

I have a Listeroid Power Line 10hp 7.35 kw 1000RPM generator. A few months ago it ran out of diesel while running and now it won't start. I believe that I did a halfway decent job of bleeding the lines and there is diesel coming out of the fuel line where it enters the cylinder head while hand cranking but for some reason I am getting zero smoke. Is there a good way to spray ether or inject brand new diesel into the head?

Hoping to jump start it with a burst of ether or fresh diesel.

Thank you,

Jim

Listeroid Engines / 10/1 Fuel Pump Not Working
« on: November 19, 2016, 05:11:10 PM »
Hello,

There is no fuel coming out of the fuel pump of my "Powerline" 10/1 while cranking. I checked and there is fuel flowing into it. Before I take it apart can someone please recommend the things that I should consider? Like replacing parts inside the pump while I have it disassembled?
Here is the info that I have on the pump
 MICO   INDIA
LIC. BOSCH
9410032  032
BDC = 9.7 +/- 0.4

?B158?

Thanks for all of the help.

Good correlation.  I wonder if maybe it was warmer there also.

That sounds like a fun little hack to try.
Thanks.

If its just soot then an elbow will shoot it away from the garden.
I am still using diesel. Have not made the switch to biodiesel or vegetable oil.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

Have a good day.

Lister Based Generators / Lister 10/1 Awfully Close To Vegetable Garden
« on: November 06, 2016, 10:59:51 AM »
Hello,

I installed my Lister 10/1 in my garage which is about 15' from my vegetable garden. The muffler is about 18' from the garden and is about 15' tall. Are there any preventative measures that I can take to ensure that nothing exiting the muffler will find its way onto the vegetable garden?

Thank you,

Jim

How would one slow a 10/1 down?
Thanks,

Things I want to Buy / Re: FREQUENCY SENSOR

I use one of these to pull my fuel rack closed is there is a loss of power out if the generator. For example, if a belt broke, the device would shut the engine down due to loss of power. Same for over heat, separate circuit attached. If I had it to do over, I would have the magnet engage and hold a switch on. Thus when the engine lost power or speed, a big spring would pull the switch into the off position due to loss of power and thus the magnet holding it on would disengage. This system could easily pull a relay.

Thanks for sharing this with me. It would be nice to cut the fuel off.

If I am understanding you correctly I should still install a Crompton voltage monitor in order to turn off the load in the quickest time. I can also use this to turn off the gas via a relay and a 12v transformer.

Having looked at the options on the Crompton website I believe the Crompton PVB-173/240 WITH AUXILIARY is my option. I can use this to close a relay that will control the entire load. I can also add to the load a 12volt transformer that will control your suggested solenoid. In the event of normal operation the Crompton monitor will energize the relay which will energize the load including the solenoid for the gas supply lever. In the event of undervoltage the Crompton will quickly disengage the relay, turn off all of the power which will in turn turn off the solenoid and close the gas valve. The only problem that I see is starting up the generator if the gas valve is closed. I might be able to install a timer relay that will energize the solenoid with 12volts from the battery for 5 minutes when I am starting the generator. I will just have to flip a switch to start the timer on the relay.

Thanks,
