Listeroid Engines / Hot Water Circulator Max Temp Rating.
« on: October 20, 2023, 10:20:04 PM »
Hello,

I am looking at some Grundfos hot water circulator pumps for the radiator on my Listeroid 10/1. The one that I am looking at is rated max temp of 150-degrees farenheit. Is that high enough to handle the ranges on my generator?

Thanks,

Jim

Listeroid Engines / Re: Manual For Listeroid 10/1

The India "manuals" are very generic, same one issued for a 6/1 or 25/2. Theyoffer little information of value, some of it flat wrong.. Also there are variants of engines called 10/1 with various RPMs and bore sizes.I might have a manual here somewhere. What is it you need to know? I might be able to help

I have been researching radiators and have decided to go with a small one off of a 4 - cylinder car out of the junk yard, add a 120-v household box fan to it and also add a 120-v grundfos circulating pump to it as well. Just wondering whether or not this should be sufficient for keeping the 10/1 1,000RPM nice and cool. I am not thrilled about using 120-v for the fan or the circulating pump but that would be easier than adding a belt and pulley or an alternator.

Thanks for the input. Hope youre having a great day.

Where can I find a manual for a Listeroid 10/1?

Thanks,

We've been using those relatively inexpensive "Grundfos" style hot water circulating pumps with good results. They run on 120v, take very little power and seem to be utterly reliable.

The Grundfos brand is prob top notch and will cost about $130 if you look carefully. The clones are about half that. I don't know how well the clones hold up.

Hello cujet,

If I use a circulating pump does the system need to be under pressure?

Thanks..

Can't wait to delve in. My damaged one is a nice sized one and I had it set up for Thermosiphon (I believe).

Thanks,

Listeroid Engines / How To Choose A Radiator
« on: August 16, 2023, 12:22:59 PM »

Hello,

The radiator on my 10-HP / 1-Cylinder Lister Clone has 1 - substantial leak at the fitting where the freon exits the radiator. I showed it to my friend who is an old school plumber and very good at soldering and he is recommending that I just try to find another radiator at the junk yard. Is there a certain type and size radiator that I should be looking for?

Thank you for the advice.

LOL   :)
Putting the generator inside the attached garage was probably not the best choice. One day I hope to run the generator on some sort of biofuel that smells good. I work at restaurants so I may be able to get their fried chicken oil. Yum Yum.
Thanks,

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the great advice and the word of caution.

I think the electric fan plus a thermostat to cut the antifreeze  flow off until warm would be the simplest route for me to take. Do you think that it would be ok to put the fan on the radiator where it will pull air from the generator through the radiator to the outside or should I pull the air from the outside through the radiator towards the generator? I would prefer to pull the air from the generator to the outside in order to help get rid of the fumes in my garage which is attached to my house.

Thanks again....

Jim

Greetings Fellow Lister Enthusiasts,

Would someone please advise me as to whether or not I should install a radiator coolant pump or fan on my Listeroid 10/1? The dimensions of the radiator are 21" x 41". It is installed above the generator. The temperature of the fluid exit port is about 240 - degrees F and the temperature of the fluid entrance port is about 215 - degrees F.

Thanks for the great help.

Sounds like you have good draft.

We also have a port outside the generator shed where we can screw in the stock "pepper pot" muffler;  I used that initially so I could see the exhaust.  It's a good idea for us to confirm our rich on full load situation with the pepper pot in place just to see.  Thanks for thinking of that Gary.

Our leach field "earth muffler"  is a 24" wide, 3.5 foot deep ditch 20 foot long filled with 3" rock (1 foot of dirt on top of some aluminum flashing).  A section of about 6 feet of 2" ID pipe with holes cut on the sides and downward feeds the leech field.  A section of 4" plastic perforated drain pipe leads out of the last 6 feet and up to a vent cap above ground.  I'd be surprised if this was overly restricting the exhaust.

I will add that I've seen some videos of  masonry mufflers (buried large expansion chamber), that they work very well and would also solve the soot on the solar panel problem.  They just won't clean up the exhaust smell as well as the leach field method.  I didn't invent it, I just appropriated it.  The leach field is the ultimate but takes some digging.

Great video. That leach field muffler system is quite nice.
I like the chimney on the roof of your generator building. Does that capture all of the (secondary) gases coming out of the side of your engine or do you pipe the gases out separately?

Thank you for sharing that.

Thanks to all for the excellent advice. The leach field sounds super easy for what you get: low noise and clean air. Would someone mind giving me a brief description of where I can learn more about building one? I am probably getting this all wrong but here goes;   I turn my 2" metal rigid conduit down and before it enters the leach field put a piece of 3" pvc or noncorrosive pipe on the end and just let it exhaust in a bed of rocks?

May I ask, how does it remove the high pressure pulses?

Thanks for the amazing advice.

Listeroid Engines / Muffler Through Wall Question
« on: February 11, 2022, 04:32:44 PM »

Greetings Fellow Lister Enthusiasts,

I was wondering if someone would please give me some guidance about the muffler on my 10/1 Listeroid?

I currently have the generator installed in my garage and have a muffler vented through the roof. I am installing solar panels on the roof so the muffler needs to be removed. The generator is about 3' from the garage wall so I should be able to vent it out of the wall. My question is, Do I have to put an elbow on the muffler and turn it up after it exits the garage? I would rather not because then everything that comes out of the muffler will land on the solar panels.

Thanks for the help.
