Engines / Lovson 14/1, with counterbalanced crankshaft, direct injection.
« on: February 10, 2008, 06:34:55 PM »

Took delivery of this engine about 3 weeks ago. Checked everything out. Painted crankcase and absolutely NO SAND OR FILINGS ANYWHERE!   Canada Customs earmarked it for an 'inspection' & charged me/customs broker $30.00 for doing so. In the process of the inspection, they stuck the crowbar in to far and pierced the cardboard box holding the fuel tank and dented the tank!!!#$%@&^*!

Bled the fuel system and cranked it over, away it went.  I have it mounted on a steel base built of 4" channel, I used 5/16 2 ply utility rubber & 1/4 x 3 x 5 homemade washers to clamp rubber top and bottom.

It was room temperature in the garage when I started it. There was some shaking that I thought was abnormal for this engine and thought it might need some balancing. Drained the water & went to work the next day.

The next weekend The garage was cold when I started work,so I poured hot water into the cooling system and cranked it over.

Once again, expecting the shaking that was experienced the weekend before,I was surprised when it got up to rated speed and smoothed right out to what one would expect from a 700lb single cylinder diesel. :)

Initially,I was stumped! I let the engine run for a few minutes longer and shut it down. A piece of the rubber I used was laying on the garage floor.   IT WAS STIFF AS HELL!  I put it in front of the heater to warm it up to room temperature and it was a 'night and day difference' :o

I will do some further investigating, but I am sure it has to do with the viscosity of the rubber/temperature.

I have some conveyor belting that I will try. It seems to be quite hard and must have about 10plys of nylon.

I am quite pleased with this engine so far.

General Discussion / THE CF-105 AVRO ARROW
« on: January 19, 2008, 06:54:43 AM »

I was just looking at some websites about the Avro Arrow,a Canadian built twin engine interceptor. The top speed that the Arrow achieved was over twice the speed of sound, and this was in 1958! Search 'Avro Arrow' ;D

   This is UNBELIEVABLE!

Listeroid Engines / Underground Exhaust System
« on: October 19, 2007, 05:41:01 AM »

The Listeroid being a stationary engine, why not route the exhaust to an array of pipes underground?  After a certain distance, plastic pipe could be utilized,as the exhaust would be cool enough.

Let nature take care of the emisions.  Plants thrive on CO2!!!

Listeroid Engines / WOOD BASE FOR A LISTEROID/USING 4x4 FENCE POSTS
« on: October 13, 2007, 05:29:23 AM »
I have a LG90 14/1 on order from Lovson exports. Comes with counterbalanced crank and flywheels.

Using 4x4 fence posts cut to 4 feet long, 8 total.  I drilled 3/8 holes, very acurately,in all the pieces. They are tied together with 3/8 threaded rod, using angle iron on each end as a continuous washer,to keek the nuts from sinking into the wood. The finished dimensions of the base is 28"x48"x3 1/2" thick. A total of 4- 36" threaded rods were used.

All 4 corners will sit on suitable rubber cushions.  When the engine is bolted down, the underside will have a steel plate with 4 mounting holes that match the dimensions of the mounting holes of the engine,in this case it is 260x260mm.

I believe that a wood base, properly built, would provide some "give" and yet be strong enough. I really dont want to pour a concrete pad. I am open to some other ideas, thats what this site is about!
