Original Lister Cs Engines / Old enough to smoke
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:36:54 AM »
I have a Lister ST-1 that seems to have decent compression and starts easily. Is it usual to see some light blue smoke when warm running. In other words do any of the older Listers burn clean and smokeless. Frank C.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Pant leg
« on: November 12, 2013, 01:44:26 AM »
Has anyone here ether had a keyed crank grab their pant leg or heard of someone that did. I may find a piece of hose or something else to push over the exposed shaft on my ST-1 now that I use an electric starter. Frank C.

Generators / Fairbanks-ward USA generator
« on: November 02, 2013, 01:11:52 AM »
Cleaning up my uncles estate I brought home a FM-ward genny with a 8hp Tecumseh gas engine. Four thousand watts 120/240 33.3/16.6 amp @ 3600 rpm.Does anyone know are these a decent generator. The generator head looks like a Winco ,with provisions to motorize the gen. to start it. I'am not that fond of Tecumseh engines but the unit was hardly ever used. Haven't had a chance to start it yet it was stored dry. Frank C.

Lister Based Generators / Chickens came to roost
« on: October 05, 2013, 02:06:11 AM »
Been a long time working and waiting on my auxiliary power Lister ST-1, aircooled engine direct coupled to a ST-10 genny.Electrician just installed a new breaker box with generator lockout. My old buddy made me up a starter for $50.00.I can run lights, refrigeration and some appliances with a manageable load on the Lister.TV works fine no flicker or noticeable problems.I'am a happy camper with the whole system, much better than the 3600 rpm screamer I've been using. « on: July 08, 2013, 01:21:13 AM »
I wish everything in this life was as dependable as an old lister. First power outage,ST-1 started first compression lights refrigeration and fans.No flicker everything including mommy seemed happy. Frank C.

Generators / Mouse guards
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:57:37 AM »
Completed installing mouse guards today on my st-10generator ,used that square hardwear cloth.Lister ST-1  started first compression I cranked it over.Plugged in a 1500 watt heater and couldn't tell any change of pitch in the engine, its refreshing to have an engine that lives up to its rateing, may have to get more heaters to plug in. Everything else / Kubota finish mower gearbox
« on: April 06, 2013, 12:06:52 PM »
I  scooped a deal on a Kubota B7100 fwd diesel with a 48" three point finish mower.Question on the mower gearbox the label says "prelubericated check and use nonfiberous wheel bearing grease. That seems strange every gearbox I've ever had used heavy gear oil, grease channels and you can't drain it.The seals seem tight I may mix in a little 140 with the grease in it now. What are your thoughts. I don't have the operators manual. Frank C.

Engines / Dagenham 6D diesel
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:44:18 AM »
Anyone here, especially our british brothers, ever timed the simms injection pump to the Dag 6D [510E-6050E   FL].The engine is on my sawmill and running but has a skip at just above 3/4 throttle,I've been told it is probibly pump timing. What I am planning to do is keep increasing the timing a couple of degrees at a time and note any improvements,if not put it back to the mark. The injection pump has a solid spacer from the block to the pump about 6" long.I have learned over the years that timing marks are not always spot on in an old engine with some wear on the gears.Just need to know how its adjusted. Thanks Frank C.

Everything else / Waterloo JD
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:27:16 AM »
Most of us have been around the block a few times and this is nothing new,but genuine Listers are hard to come by.The old John Deere two cylinder tractors are next of kin, think of them as a mobile Lister.I've owned and worked two cyl. Deers for 50 years and they never stop amazing me, they were built for the long haul and will still hold their own with the asian wonder diesels. My favorite is a 70 diesel ,I'am a diesel mechanic by trade and my jaw dropped when I rebuilt this tractor everything is massive big bore [6 1/8"] and stroke journals you can barely put boath hands around.Wile your waiting for your next "Lister fix"and find an old Deere it will be one of the most usefull machines you have, especially if it has a loader. Generators / Dayton generator
« on: March 01, 2013, 01:09:03 PM »
I have been give a Dayton {4W113} gen.with a two cyl Briggs that runs fine but she no puta out.I believe the gen head is made by Generac. It has two slip rings for excitation, what is the proper procedure to flash the field.Red and black wire to the brushes can I assume the red positive.?? Do hope its not the regulator thats gone south. Thanks Frank C.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister ST-1 starter
« on: February 24, 2013, 12:43:20 PM »
I have an old delco bendix type starter I've been tripping over for years.Took a few measurments and it bolted right up to the crank side of my ST-1,spun  it over and it started right up in the cold, not even oil assist.Guess that tells a tail on the old phart thats been cranking it. Its not perfect the drive only catches about half the width of the ring gear.I will have my friend in the business make me up a positive engaugement starter, where the drive is in the ring gear before it spins.Gary which side do they usally mount the starter on a ST-1 Lister, crank side or flywheel side.?? Thanks Frank C.

Generators / ST-1 Lister and 10 KW gen.
« on: February 08, 2013, 01:15:05 PM »
I'am waiting on the electrician to wire in my gen. to a new breaker main panel. As of now I was planning to bring in 220v to the panel.I don't plan on running any 220v stuff only 110v lights and circulators.Would I be better to reconfigure my gen. to strictly 110v and would that cause problems for the electrician.I'am planning to have all the heavy loads blocked out on the pannel. Gen is strictly a backup system. Thanks Frank C.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Sound asleep in the shed
« on: December 26, 2012, 01:24:07 PM »
Would it be better to let my ST-1 air cooled Lister  rest undesturbed in the cold weather than to bring it to life for test cycles, its strictly a backup unit.I like to hear them run too but cold starts are tough on diesels. Frank C.
