Listeroid Engines / Re: Lead compression test
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:30:03 PM »
Hi hotater,

my machine also has not this liner. But which clearance now is the right for a machine without this liner, the larger clearance or the smaller clearance?
I meassured a clearance of 0.053" and the piston comes nearly up with the deck.

Thanks
Lars

Hi Bill,

my question was more a question about the different cylinder head clearance for the same engine type.
Geno told me the clearance for the 6/1 should be 0.060" - 0.065" my manual says something about 0.040"-0.050" for the 6/1.

I think this has something to do with the presence or absence of the compression change over valve.

The trick with the solder through the injection hole works for the IDI engines to. I made it this way on my 12/2. The solder I used was thicker solder wire (3mm = 0,12") for water pipe installations.

Regards
Lars

How comes there are different cylinder head clearances for the same type of machine?

My JKSON 12/2 had more than 0.080" on one and 0.075" clearance on the other cylinder.
I have changed that to 0.053" on both. Is that to few or to much?

In the manual the following is told:
- 0.040" - 0.050" for 6/1 and 12/2
- 0.075" - 0.080" for 8/1 and 16/2

Thanks
Lars

Hello again.

Here is another question I have.
To make the »lead compression test«, does the cylinder head gasket have to be in place or should I remove it before testing?
I don't know if the distance between piston and head is with or without gasket thickness.

Thanks again
Lars

Thank you very much hotater.

Just one silly question left:

To adjust the tappet I have to remove the pump from its socket on the camshaft end cover, don't I?
I haven't had the heart to touch the screws that hold the pump in it's position.

Best regards
Lars

Hello!

Shortly I bought a JKSON 12/2 and disassembled it to
check for casting sand and to clean the dirty oil out.

After assembling it again I tried to start it.

On one cylinder this is no problem but on the second it
is nearly impossible. This simply doesn't want to ignite (detonate?)!

I run it on biodiesel.

From the second muffler only some white smoke leaves.
I'm not sure if this is from wrong compression, bad
nozzle (or dirty nozzle) or from wrong timing.

That's why I want to check everything and especially the timing.

After reading some english explainations I'm not much wiser than before.
I'm not a native english speaker. So I have my troubles.

Can someone of you explain me how I could change the timing?

I know I should adjust the tappet underneath the pump, but how?
Do I have to remove the pump therefore or the camshaft end cover?
How can I reach this tappet?
Do I have to screw the adjustment screw in or out for a later injection?

Many thanks and best greetings
Lars

Hallo!

The multiple gaskets of different thickness are what we are referring to as shims.

From the translation to german I understand shims as made from metal and gaskets (in the meanig of joints) made from softer material.
Could I mix both types of shims for the same cylinder block? Which should I prefer for a listeroid?

Thanks
Lars

Good morning,

I've a question about this shims.

I own a 12/2 from JKSON and there where no shims used anywhere.
The base clearance was adjusted with the usage of multiple gaskets of different thickness.
In which order would the shims and gaskets be used on assembly?
I had clearance of 1.75mm (0.069") clearance on the one and 2mm (0.079") clearance on the second cylinder base.

Thanks
Lars

I did the standard governor mod. to make it into a generator, and then ran it.

Hallo Rod,

could you post me a link, a page number in Georges PDF or something with the description of the modification you mean?
I own a 12/2 since a week and have it open for cleaning and everything. I don't want to forget to make all things that should have been done.

Thanks

Hallo Guy,

thank you for you hint with prestonservices but they thought it might be better to take the offer from the net and not to answer any emails from a kraut anymore.

But I found some german listeroid sellers.

Best regards

Np = number of poles on generator (2 for 1500 or 1800 RPM generators, 4 in 3000 or 3600 RPM generators)

Or better vice versa.

Hallo Matevz,

welcome to this board.
I'm from Germany. So I'm not far away. You are a step ahead, because I still try to get my Lister yet.
Am I allowed to ask where you did get your Listeroid from and which manufacturer it is from?

Thanks
Lars

Hallo Guy,

I got a relatively positive answer from prestonservices. I don't know if I'm allowed to come over and pick it up on a weekend. At a normal weekday I can't manage that.

Now I have a question. The engine is said to have the complete with fuel tank etc. That might mean there is the hopper cooler tank (is it called like that?) also attached to the engine.

Could you measure the size of that water tank of your s-o-m for me? I don't know if I could load it in the back of a VW T4 Bus? How are these tanks fixed to the engine normally?

Thanks
Lars
