Engines / bryce pump woes

Hi all,

 i have a Bryce Berger fuel pump on a Petter PJW, i had to remove it and re tap the bleed screw threads, my manual says the rack should have a calibration mark on it, mine doesn't, so where do i measure the setting from ?

Generators / 2 alternators on one engine ?

Is it possible to belt drive 2 seperate AC alternators from one engine ? could they be made to run in a single phase ?

i'm looking to build a  10 kva generator set, finding a single 10 kva alternator is difficult, two 5's is easy.

this 10 kva generator state 3 phase but has standard 110 and 240 v sockets, i'm mystified..

I want to run some electronic stuff off it, that needs AVR.

At the point the injector fires, which you can hear, is that the correct TDC for setting the tappet clearances on that cylinder ?

Straight Vegetable Oil / hotbulbs

Is there any benefit in running  a 2 stroke semi Diesel hot bulb engine on waste oil, they say the things can run on various oil fuels. would this avoid injector / pump problems , and be a simpler set up.

Engines / Petter PJ injector pipe problem

i have a Petter PJW3, where one of the pump to injector pipes has come out of the steel "olive"  if that's what you call it, at the pump connection nut, can this be repaired, or is it a new pipe ?

I'm guessing it's crimped on ?

Waste Motor Oil / WMO - Stirling engine, made for each other.

May be the best way forward for the wonder free fuel WMO is burning it to run a Stirling engine, then generating heat and electricity. The ash problem in Diesel engines is not going to be solved easily.

You would think an engine invented in 1816 would be easy to get hold of, but no one is making them at economic quantities.

Lister Based Generators / Small Diesel generator project

I'm planning out making up a mini Diesel generator to charge batteries, 25 amps @ 13.5 v will do it. I'm looking for a cheap watercooled single cylinder that i can run at slow rpm, 1000 max, for around 1.5 / 2 hp. The point is to get off Petrol, and move to Diesel at half the cost, and it must be very quiet, hence the low rpm. What engines are suitable ?

General Discussion / pre start oil priming ?

Thoughts on this idea,

 install a seperate oil priming pump, either manual or electric ,in parallel with the crankcase pump, to pre load the bearings with oil before starting, if you go starting battery powered then it would be similar to a heat position on the start key switch. The boffins tell us that alot of the wear takes place in the cold start before the oil pressure builds up, this would eliminate that .

You could possibly fill an accumulator vessel of oil during the previous run, and open the valve just before starting next time.

Engines / HA end float question.........

Iv'e got 3 thou end float with no shim on the bearing housing, should i leave it or fit a 5 thou shim ?

end float needs to be 5- 10 thou, shims are 5 or 10 thou.
