There is no stop lever. The solenoid pulls the throttle governor lever open via linkage#2 and the external spring returns it to the stop position when power is cut to the solenoid.

If the ceramic former is still intact you can rewind them to the correct resistance. My Aux field resistor was crook and the resistance of it was so low that I was able to rewind it with 0.9 mm stainless mig wire.

I would have a look at the engine speed switch which is supposed to operate the main contactor or check the contactor coil for continuity.

1000v 50 amp rectifier on ebay A$10.00

I would get rid of that selenium rectifier and replace it with a decent diode.

Either wire in either terminal You should see the name plate voltage either 110v or 230 v across L1-L2

Those are the right terminals but I would put a meter across them when running because you never know how it has been modified. Polarity doesn't matter .

sounds like the brushes are too hard.   http://www.cortela.com.au/product.asp?id=55  this gives a bit of a story about them.

You will only get blowback if the needle and seat are leaky or the injector adjustment is incorrect.

Did you alter the setting on the governor fulcrum pin? and have the governor weights got the correct springs on them. you should have a red speeder spring and red governor springs.

Cold Starters----They are a screwed in to the intake manifold and you half fill them with oil and push down on the piston that fits neatly in them. this dumps about 30 mil of oil into the piston cavity and raises the compression temporarily for a cold start.

I think the ST series has the cold starting cups try putting some oil in them.
