Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister engine spotted in Ireland
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:00:33 AM »
The company I work for sent me to Ireland, and I added a couple of days of vacation for sightseeing.  I took the wife along and went to Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland and Glenveagh National Park in Ireland.  I spotted this Lister engine powering a sawmill at Glenveagh.  The sawmill is just to the southwest of the castle, and with the inviting sign on it I couldn't resist going in and taking a few pictures.

I also couldn't resist turning the engine over a couple of turns.  At first, I thought it was stuck but it came free pretty easy.  I was certain I heard an injector creak, but I don't think there was any compression.  Both the compression release on fuel rack levers were stuck.  The compression change over levers were free, but I'm not certain they worked properly.

Question for the group - on engine that's been sitting, but on public display - what's best for the engine - to leave it alone or turn it over a couple of turns?  Obviously, I didn't have my oil can or tools where I could have lubed it up first.

Anyone recognize this beast?  It's three cylinders, and from looking on the web it might be a FR3.  I does have a cast aluminum valve cover, but the aluminum tag was too corroded to read.
