Listeroid Engines / Re: 32 coupe's Metro 6/1
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:01:53 AM »

I have not tried to balance mine yet.
It may not need it.
It barely moves on the floor.
Like you, I added 4" rubber pads at each corner and it stays put.

veggie,
WOW, nice set up !  After I get mine the way I want it I will do a complete teardown, paint and do something similar. What type of oil pump are you using ?

32 coupe

Thanks for the kind words.
The pump is a small bronze gear pump made by Sterling. Model # AJN
Ports are 1/2" NPT
At the 650 rpm that I run at, it pumps 3 gallons per minute.

32 coupe,

Very nice job !
Just curious,.... most 6/1's that are mounted in this manner tend to "walk" across the floor when running.
Until I bolted mine to the floor, it vibrated at a very slow pace. Maybe 1" per minute.
How does yours behave ?

Should be about 1.2 to 1.5 quarts per hour for a 6/1 at full load.

your 42 oz. (or 1.3 quarts) per hour sounds about right.

38AC,

That's a really nice job you did on that 6/1 power unit.
I noticed you still have the big "flat belt pulley" installed.
Are you planning to drive something with a flat belt ?

Interesting accessory.
Here's a Lister CS with a bolt-on hopper attached to the cooling jacket inspection plate.

The GM90 Listeroids have two crankcase vents.
One in the usual place (where my oil filter now resides), and one on the flywheel side of the crankcase.
Notice the vertical silver pipe with a small muffler on top. ?
Just below the muffler I installed a brass check valve.

This video of the engine running at full load shows some mist coming from the breather.
Hopefully this goes away once the rings seat.

As for a starter.... I do have an air starter built but not yet installed.

Listeroid Engines / GM90 Listeroid Powerplant Walk-around
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:59:18 AM »
Hi All,

For those who have not already seen this.....
The holidays allowed me a bit of free time to finish up my Listeroid powerplant project.
After a year of "on-and-off" attention, this project is finally done.
Rather than explain my setup, I made a "walkaround" video of the unit.
This is a GM90 Listeroid coupled to a Voltmaster 4kw head.
Currently the engine is de-rated from 900 rpm to 650 rpm where it produces 5HP (or 2.5 kw electrical @ full loaded).
I did try to coax 3kw from it but the black smoke told me it was too much.  ;D

Later, I may change the sheaves and run it at 900 rpm to get the full 8HP and 4kws of power.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Container shipping out of England
« on: January 06, 2012, 02:07:15 AM »

Hi 38ac,

Actually, I have a good customs /transport agent who arranged all the shipping.
They arranged to get the goods released (after 5months) and they are going after the fumigation/crating company in India for the money.
All engines were pre-sold and have now been sent to their new homes.
That was the last of the Listeroids for me.

There are some parts kits available for all the GM90 6HP & 8HP users out there....

Gentlemen,

Be sure to check the rules. It can be very expensive.
My latest shipment of GM90 Listeroids got stopped at the port in Canada and was deemed to be lacking adequate fumigation.
By import law the whole container had to be immediately fumigated and returned to the most recent port. In this case Shanghai China.
(It went from India to China to Canada)
After an inspection in China it was shipped back to Canada where passed customs, but got seized by the freight company until "somebody" pays the additional $8000 for special fumigation, storage, re-crating, shipping twice more across the pond, inspections fees, and on...and on....and on...

After 5 months I got it resolved and the faulty party is now being chased for the money.

So, unless you want a whole bunch of paperwork, additional fees, and an extra 5 month wait, make sure about the fumigation requirements.

Second item is the wood crating itself.
By US law all incoming wood crates must now be made from specially treated wood with proper numbered markings showing that it is insect resistant.

Check with an import authority and make sure you comply. One option is to not crate at all and leave the engines open for inspection.
Of course this creates additional problems of stability and safety.

Good luck,
veggie
