Original Lister Cs Engines / Bone collector - Lister CS

Interesting trek.....
This fellow found 6 Lister CS engines in the Australian outback.
3 of them look to be complete.

Generators / Distance between generator and point of use
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:30:43 AM »
Anyone here have a generator located 250 ft. or more from the house (or the point of power use)?
One possible site for me is a Barn which is approx 250 ft from the dwelling.
I would like to know if there are any issues in locating my Lister SR2 - 5kw generator in the barn and running a L--o--n--g power line to the transfer switch plug at the dwelling.
The line would be a combination of above ground (along a fence) and trenched from the fence to the dwelling.

anyone else with a run this long ?

Listeroid Engines / Re: plugged fuel line
« on: June 29, 2014, 07:04:58 PM »

+1 for Tom's comment.
I had to replace my fuel lines after running Biodiesel for just 3 hours.
The fuel line got soft and gummy with a big blister in one section that would have burst if not caught in time.

Listeroid Engines / Re: NG / Propane dosing on Listeroids
« on: June 26, 2014, 09:37:11 PM »

Thanks Carl,

My thinking is that Gas dosing while running Waste Veggie Oil should result in little or no deposits.
So this system is being used to allow clean running of WVO.

Listeroid Engines / NG / Propane dosing on Listeroids
« on: June 26, 2014, 09:02:40 PM »
Hi All,

I fabricated a fitting for the inlet of my Listeroid to allow Gas dosing.
I know there are a few other members on the forum who have already
done this and I would like to know if my Gas nozzle is acceptable.
The nozzle is a stainless steel tube crimped at one end with 4 small holes drilled
in the middle of the air path. Upstream of this, the system has a needle valve to control flow and a regulator to manage pressure.
The needle valve can be adjusted to throttle the flow through this nozzle.
Has anyone used simple holes for this service compared to the angled nozzles used in automotive nitrous injection.
Will it work ?

cheers,

Thanks Tom.
Those would work.
Hmmmm.... drilling a hole through the crank on the engine side of the flywheels is a bit scary for me.
I Don't want to make the crank any weaker than it is.
Perhaps just drilling a recess the same depth as the point on the set screw is the answer.
Could that create a weak spot (break point) ?

How are you going to get the RPM's the alt needs off of that 5" pulley? It would probably be best to run a serpentine belt over the flat of the flywheel.

Not a standard alternator. It makes 50 amps at 900 rpm.
The small 6 inch water pump pulley is the perfect size.

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid water pump/Alternator Pulley Set Screws
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:01:20 PM »
I originally utilized the stock 5" single belt water pump pulley on my Listeroid to drive an oil pump.

I now want to use this pulley to drive a 24 volt alternator at 50 amps load (or 1200 watts... or 1.2kw....or 1.6HP)

My concern is that this pulley is attached to the crankshaft by two 3/8" set screws (no keyway or flat spot on the shaft)  :-\
The set screws were adequate for driving the 1/8 HP needed by the oil pump, but the demand from this new alternator can reach 1.6HP .
I am wondering if anyone has experience driving anything like this with their Listeroid auxiliary pulley ?

Can two set screws adequately take the 1.6HP load/torque ?

Not a great picture, but the one below illustrates the location and current use for this pulley...

thanks

Everything else / Re: Waste oil powered Hot water heater.
« on: June 16, 2014, 02:46:19 PM »
That's interesting.
From the size and velocity of that flame I'd say it would heat that hot water tank very fast.
In fact a lot of your heat may be passing right through the tank and out the exhaust.
I wonder if you reduced flame to something similar to the gas burner that was originally on the tank you would still produce 40K to 50K btu/hr. while using much less fuel.
I am not familiar with the operation of the oil burners so maybe my suggestion is not possible due to orifice sizes, blower volume, and feed rates.

Nice to have an alternate source of heat in case the SHTF

+1 for BruceM's inquiry of the lube system.
I can see 2 lube lines running to the valves, but what is lubricating the rocker shaft and rocker arm bushings ?

veggie

Update....
After reading your description I see that you have wicks under the rocker cover which soak oil to the Rocker Shaft.... Good Idea !
