[  QUOTE" Mostly used for battery charging. 24V 85T-17s via Magnum 4024. " ]

So... are you generating 120 volts with the Listeroid to feed the AC-input on the Magnum ? and in turn, the Magnum charges the batteries?

OR

Are you generating 24vdc with an alternator and feeding the Magnum?

I ask because I too have a Magnum 4024 that I have not yet put into service.
I was thinking that I would have to generate 120 volts with my Listeroid and feed it into the AC-IN connections on my Magnum.

Hugh,

That's good feedback. Thanks for posting.
Are you burning dino diesel only? or are there some "alternative fuels" too?.... like veg oil.

A couple more questions....  :)

How many hours per day does it run?
Driving loads directly ?  or charging a battery bank?

Cheers,
Veggie

Everything else / Re: Blasphemy..... Solar power.
« on: May 10, 2016, 08:37:11 PM »
Glort, why bother with grid connection or spinning meters backwards?
Consider running your panels to a battery bank, then to an inverter which powers some dedicated loads that are always on and powered only by the solar.
Maybe a freezer and/or a refrigerator, lower element in the hot water heater, night lights, etc....
It's the same as slowing down your meter because you are removing those circuits from your grid system.

just a thought mate,

Generators / Re: Frequency/Voltage Meter for ST gensets
« on: May 04, 2016, 02:58:34 PM »

I have an interest in that meter that you pointed out, but I don't understand how it calculates AMPS/WATTS without using an inductance ring?
Here is a similar listing which shows the wiring diagram.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Digital-Blue-LED-Power-Panel-Meter-Monitor-Power-Energy-Voltmeter-Ammeter-20A-AC-/262409140534?hash=item3d18cdb936:g:aZ0AAOSwMVFXIYT1

Does the full system current have to pass through the meter via the two terminals labeled "LOAD" ?
For example:
Would the meter be wired in series with the L1 (hot) wire of a 120 volt circuit ?
If so, I see a problem when trying to measure the output of a  230v split phase generator when only one leg of the circuit can pass through the meter.

Thoughts?

Things I want to Buy / Serpentine pulley source
« on: March 28, 2016, 04:24:45 PM »
Hi All,

Anyone know a source for 8 ribbed serpentine pulleys ?

I am looking for:
8 ribs
6.0" diameter
1" bore ( or taper lock bushing style )

This is to match up with the 8.34", 8 rib serpentine pulley on my ST-5 generator head

Thanks,
veggie

PS: I think it would cost me a small fortune to get one custom made locally

Listeroid Engines / Re: Newbie, looking to determine engine value

I agree with 38ac.
Being of Indian origin they all have an issue here and there.
Be prepared to do some tinkering and adjusting like any other Listeroid.

seashells,

I have a Listeroid GM90 6/1 and I am very happy with it.
I have had several Listeroids and this one is the best quality of the bunch.
A big advantage that these engines have is the crank driven oil pump which feeds the con rod bearing with pressurized oil.
I imported and sold about 10 of these engines a few years back. They sold for between $1400 CAD and $1700 CAD depending on options (some had electric start).
I would not have any reservations buying on of those.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Changfa Engines / Re: R175 Battery Bank Charger

Thanks 38ac,
I must give much credit to a fellow I work with who is a great welder.
He stitched my base parts together with lovely smooth welds.
A very useful skill.

 quinnbrain,

Those chain couplings (I think they are made by FALK ?) are pretty much indestructible. Just like your SR2.
I used a Woods Sureflex coupling. The style with 2 hubs and a Neoprene insert between.
That's why I over sized mine so grossly. If you size them for the engine horsepower the elastomer insert tends to disintegrate, so I used a 5 service factor.

The base is fabricated from a length of 12" wide channel steel and some riser pads to get both machines at the same height.
I had some help with the welding because can't do that very well.

Changfa Engines / R175 Battery Bank Charger
« on: February 09, 2016, 02:37:39 AM »
I just completed my latest Project...
The engine is Changfa style R175 and is coupled to an ST-2kw head.
This is the first unit I have built which is directly coupled without a belt drive.
To accommodate the power pulses I sized a shaft coupling capable of 30HP even though the engine makes 6hp.  ;)
For 60hz power the engine must run at 1800 rpm, however I would like to slow it down to 1500 rpm and generate 50hz power.
This should provide quieter operation, lower fuel consumption and maybe longer engine life.
Apparently the IOTA 55 amp charger that the ST head will be powering accepts 50hz power.

There is more discussion on this subject at the following thread...

Generators / Re: ST Head at 50 HZ
« on: February 09, 2016, 12:12:23 AM »

Ok, so if I understand you guys correctly....

The simplest way without adding caps or resistors would be to simply wire the ST for 50hz and let her fly ??
This would give me nominal 115 volts at 50 hz  at 1500 rpm?

correct ?

Generators / ST Head at 50 HZ
« on: February 08, 2016, 06:27:11 PM »
A couple of questions relating to ST performance...

What is the typical VOLTAGE output of a single phase 60 hz ST2 head wired for low voltage? is it 110V, or 115v, or 120v ?
Is the relationship linear between speed and voltage on an ST head ?

The ST Head will be driving an IOTA 55 amp, 12 volt battery bank charger.
IOTA states that the charger can operate anywhere between 50hz and 60hz.
Allowable input voltage to the charger is 108 to 130 VAC.

The engine/generator are direct coupled at 1800 rpm (60hz) and the engine produces far more power (and noise) than needed.
I want to know if I can slow down my diesel & ST Head to 1500 rpm (50hz) and still charge the batteries.

If the speed/voltage relationship is linear then I could theoretically reduce the engine speed to 1500 and still charge batteries and make 50 hz. power.
But the resulting voltage would be too low for the IOTA charger.
eg:   115 volt X (50/60) = 95 volts.... too low for the IOTA

so.... in order to get at least 108 volts, I would have to slow the engine down to 1674 rpm or 55 hz.

That is ... IF the relationship of ST speed and voltage are linear and the initial 60 hz voltage is 115VAC (or is it 110v ? or is it 120V?)

Thanks,
Veggie

Bruce,

Watched your vids.
Man....you did a really nice job with that propane listeroid !

WELL DONE !

Nice to see it running after all the work you have had to put in.
