Yo Buick!!

I didn't understand your question, SORRY!

I spent  more than 25 years in avionics in the Air Force and  I didn't learn early, being an electronic technician is very different from being a electrician or a power man.. Lots of electronic techs get their butts zapped because they don't respect  good old down and dirty, ELECTRICITY ... ME INCLUDED!   A good electrician friend of mine taught me "black on brass" a number of years ago and I can't count the times it has come in handy, especially now that I am off the grid.

In the Air Force I learned the tongue in cheek version, "torque it  till it breaks off, THEN, back it off a quarter turn."

Everything else / Re: DC Battery Banks

"enough for anyone."

Yeah,  I only use 1.6 kW per day, at my home. My inverter only takes about 20 minutes in absorbtion charge before it goes into float.   About enough time to pump a couple hundred gallons of water or do one load of laundry.  Then the peace and quiet returns.

A Lister or Petter driving a 24 volt DC alternator is my end goal. A mini Petter would probably do it, but a Lister probably would be better for co-generation.

Enough with the crazy glue, OK!!  Don't you guys know this is DANGEROUS!!  It's just not that strong... things could fall off and people could get hurt!!

Didja ever drop a 800 lb Lister on your foot... It's not funny.... MISTER!

Can't we just "stick to" gluing out fingers together, or possibly other body parts like fingers to noses  or ears? You know, simple harmless stuff!!

PLEASE, be careful!!

Mike ;)

MAN, I've worn out a ton of combat boots!!! 27 years worth!!  I've happily worn sneakers for the last eight years!

Had a pair that I painted red back during the disco era. Sadly I didn't get any luckier!

Kinda wonder if I even have enough load to keep for wetstacking the little beast?

Hell,  I may have to get a big head and connect the neighbors up to Twombo Power and Light.

Thanks Bob!

What kind of fuel consumption numbers are we talking about with these "I SUE YOU"  motors (remember the Joe Isuzu commercial?)

Reminds me of a dearly departed 21 year old bottle of Macallan I got in San Marino 10 years ago. As I recall I was getting 106 dollars aday perdiem and used up the best part of a days eating money for the bottle. I capped off a number of fly fishing excursions before it's untimely demise. Best Damn scotch I EVER had... bar none! I still have  bottle, and just sniff it once in a while to bring back memories!!

Whoops!!

Looks like cores that don't match worth a damn! I guess you could ease the passages with a die grinder to impove the flow. Hate to have to buy a new head, since it looks otherwise, OK. I hate the taste of cast iron!!

Always some bastard in the foundry who doesn't check for the latest drawing changes, eh?? What the hell do we get for our 50 rupees a day anymore?

Guys
Looks like it has possiblities to be a replacement prime mover for the POS, lp fueled, 12.5 Kw Generac lying dead in front of my house.  Now to figure out how to adapt the rotor and stator assembly to the "noisemaker".  Probably have to pull  the crank and turn a taper and fab a adapter plate to center the stator housing.

Of course with that effort sunk the Crap Generac electronics will give up  the ghost... HA!!!! I'm sure glad I'm not the fool who bought the Generac.

One more lithium for the road!!

I think it's nap time.

CO2 fire extiguisher, never tried this but it can freeze a 5 gallon pale full of beer bottles and water in seconds. Sad this is the only thing I ever did with my fire training.....

Geeze, Doug,  That sounds pretty good to me. It could be worse, and you could'a been sleeping during the demo!! Then how would we get the ultra cold beer, HUH??

Bushing, smushing.... gimme  a beer!

You are a "mensch", Doug.  I like your style!! I hope the kid takes you up on your offer!!!

I'll take  hard worker with a good attitude and few skills over a guy with a bad attitude and pro skills any any of the week. First guy is money in the bank, the second is a pain in the ass!

Lister Based Generators / Re: Dc motor/generator
« on: August 30, 2006, 04:50:21 AM »
Been watching this thread wit h interest. I'm with Bob here, buy good batteries and treat em with care and avoid  having to rejuvenate them.  As I recall the Xantrex Inverters put a high frequency pulse on the pass through charging to help break up the soft sulfates that come from normal use.  The hard sulfates are another issue.

Now, to digress just a bit!  Picked up a Xantrex XAR-12 alternator regulator for making a little DC Genny for battery maintenance. Pretty good deal, less than half  list price.

Now I am looking at a Kubota EB300D single cylinder apu motor, little one lunger with a balance shaft, guess the Changfa 185 is a copy. Add a 150 amp alternator Maybe I cn find a deal on a Mil spec unit , (although most of thoserare 24 volt) and I should be set up for the low sun, time of year  coming up.

Little dude has a vernier adjustable remote throttle so I may be able to mount the control panel in my house by the front door by my Trimetric panel and solar charge controller remote monitor panels. winters coming boys!!  Heard the little Kubiesare pretty good little units! What say youse?

I have lot's of tall trees to the south so my solar collection gets real poor  in mid winter.  I surveyed my set up and I only can expect 40% of theoretical maximum on a sunnty day on winter solstice... assuming n clouds (I have lots of clouds). I have just 440 watts of solar panels this point and will have to probably get rid of some trees and mount my solar array on a windmill tower to get good insolation for the long term.  Pretty big project that will take some time and heavy effort.

OBTW I use about 1.2 KW a day, max.

Later guys
