Lister Based Generators / Re: Lister TS2 generator

Madlabs,
The injectors are fed fuel by the high pressure lines from the fuel pump. I suspect that the pipes which you have identified as fuel feed lines are in fact the pipes which take excess fuel from the injectors back to the fuel tank.

Silly question for Glort! If your supply company changed your meter so that you could no longer get a credit from power going to the main how would you utilise your power then?
In the UK most if not all electricity supply meters have been changed so that they do not run backwards. We have a system. which is currently being phased, out called a 'feed in tariff system'(FITS) which was introduced to encourage the installation of solar PV on properties. Every PV system has a meter which records all power produced, any of this power not used on the premises automatically feeds into the mains system. Readings from the generation meter have to be supplied every 90 days to the company operating your FITS scheme. The property owner then receives a payment(fixed by government) for every unit produced then a further payment on half the units produced, which are deemed to have been exported to the mains. This second payment is usually around a quarter of what the supply company charges for power and is paid irrespective of whether any power is actually fed to the mains. Needless to say there are various devices developed to try and ensure that all power produced can be utilised and nothing is fed back to the mains!

Hey glort if you are considering and Aga or similar unit, try to find one that runs on heating oil. They have a gravity fed wick burner that will run real good on WVO, hell of a lot easier and cheaper than an electric version.

Are you speaking from experience? I have had an oil(Kerosene) Aga for some 47 years and, knowing how fussy and temperamental they can be over the fuel they will use, I am extremely dubious of them being able to use wvo as a fuel. The wick burner they use is entirely dependent on the fuel readily vapourising.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Re: Identify this Bamford?

From what you describe it would appear that you have the wrong starting handle and you are turning the engine the wrong way, otherwise it should have started.

Lister Based Generators / Re: SL1 with generator for 220V 1 phase

You do not say whether the generator is direct coupled to the engine or belt driven.
If belt driven are belts too slack, and slipping, so generator is not turning at required speed. Are the pulleys correctly sized to give the required generator speed?

Looking at your pictures it looks as if the brush holder needs adjusting as the brushes are lying at an angle and not square with the rings. The brushes consequently are not making even contact with the rings, as you can see by the shiny contact area on the rings. This may have nothing to do with your voltage problem but it certainly won't help. If, as you say, no further re-alignment is possible I can only assume that someone has fitted the wrong brush holders or something has moved that should not have. I hardly think that any reputable manufacturer would put out a unit in that state.

Things I want to Buy / Lister/Petter PC1 part wanted
« on: April 13, 2011, 09:40:15 AM »
Sorry. just noticed I posted in the wrong section.
I am looking for part number HL232 Dog(Flywheel end starting) according to the parts manual.
This is the dog bolted to the flywheel which engages with the sprocket shaft of  the starting handle drive chain mechanism.
There were two variants available No 232 for standard clockwise rotation(looking at flywheel) and No 232a for  anticlockwise rotation.
I need No 232 clockwise rotation.
Can any one help please?

Have already contacted Jim Perkins at petterengines.co.uk and he does not have this part, thought I would give this site a try.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Is the PCM actually the same engine?  I don't know.
Mainly I would like to be sure that my reckoning on how it should be started( or stopped) is correct  because my best efforts have failed to start it.
Have been able to check that fuel is getting to the injector O.K. but can't tell if the injector is firing it out. Would like to know the correct procedure for removing the injector for testing, made a tentative attempt to remove it without success. Am being ultra cautious perhaps but I don't want to damage anything.
Thanks for any help.

Engines / Manual for Lister/Petter PC1 Diesel Engine
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:57:02 PM »
Can anyone suggest where I might obtain a manual, or scan of a manual, for a Lister/Petter PC1 Diesel Engine. I would be happy to pay a fair price. Searches on Google and Ebay have, so far, been fruitless.
