Lister Based Generators / Re: 900 rpm 8 pole genhead

I have been building wind turbines for the last 15 years, all have PMG alternators and all are 3 phase (for best efficiency). Typically the RPM they operate at is much lower than a CS. But is no big deal to modify the base design for a CS, the additional benefits of direct drive and eliminating transmissions losses are worth it.

Most people use wind turbines for charging battery banks, the sine wave is less then, but you can still achive a decent sine wave with good engineer discipline. After all, this is a science and most here are good with their hands/brain.

With PPM you get the most from your engine, there is no loss due to field coils or excitation, whatever you wish to call it. In wind applications every watt is precious. With an old CS running off grid, I would keep the same things in mind and spend the time to get every watt you can. If it is done once, and done right, you never again have to touch it. no communtator to wear and far less noise too.

Food for thought perhaps, and hope this is of use to some of you.
