The force that causes that sort of action is called precession.

Yep, but the motor still has to be off the ground to precess  :o  ;D ;D

To see these mysterious lister powers in action have a look at this video here

Is that a concrete slab it's bolted to?

No wonder they recommend a ton! :D

but somewhere in the basments of a Canadian univerities near you there are old slow poke reactors running for research. So well made they are lisceneced to run without opperators for short durration...

Sort of like a "nukular" listeroid then....
Wonder if they could do a startomatic version?
How long before Atul starts making them?  :D

Pony,
So you're probably at work like me, killing time! (I'm allowed to -  self employed ;D)
Statistically, I suppose you're on the North Island; I've only seen the South island but my God, it's beautiful!

Cheers,

Brian

Are your CS units original? Or did you get Indian Listeroids from Sam Warne?

One of each :)

A 12/2 powerline from Sam and a 1941 10/2 Dursley item which has nearly complete after the mother of all rebuilds. Boy, a good Indian 'roid can be a helluva lot easier than rebuilding a knackered original !

this outrages French accent!

I'd swap any accent for the one I'm currently typing in. ;D. For those in the know, Burton on Trent .With me now? :-[

And I'm from across the ditch Matt/Snail.

So are we talking Devil Or Kiwi?

Come to think of it, Hands up all members "down under". While we're at it, I lived in Johannesburg for a few years. Anyone from South Africa? We need a bit of southern hemisphere to balance things up on this forum!

Hope all is well....

Thanks for your concern, all is indeed well . I'm getting too old/fat/lazy to live in the bush anymore.I'll have a look inside the 12/2 and then put it up for sale in the marketplace. Remember I'm in Queensland, OZ !
I'll hang on to the ST and eventually put it on the 10/2 as a backup. We haven't even moved into the new place and we've had 2 power cuts already (in the last month). Haven't had a power cut for 18 years!!! >:( >:(

a slight vacume should be pulled on the case,

Sadly, that's not the case with the twins :'( .With one piston up and one down the crankcase is at positive pressure all of the time. A good gasket sealant should take care of most of it, but it'll probably never be oil tight.
I had toyed with the idea of putting the slight induction vacuum into the crankcase, but that's unlikely to happen now as I no longer have any practical use for the roid ( after 18 years off grid I'm moving back to suburbia ??? ???)

Everything else / Re: Cross Hatch
« on: June 03, 2008, 12:48:43 AM »
Wormshoe,
The 4 liners I've seen all have a cross hatch but it's very light. After a few hundred hours a lot of it's gone. I've had my Dursley items re honed and the finish is much deeper. Will it make much difference to a 'roid? Dunno :)

Cheers,

Brian

I'm still not convinced that sparrows actually fart. At least with ducks there's some proof.....

Listeroid Engines / Re: 12/2 counterbalanced?

This could be interesting....internally AND externally balanced ??? ??? ???.
Do the other internally balanced roids use counterwighted flywheels as well? (never actually seen one)

Keep up the good work!

So dare we say that the Indians have improved on the original design?

Yes, why not? :)

It may not be politically correct on this forum  ;D but why not give credit where it's due? The wet liners are a pretty good idea too when it comes down to servicing in the field. I'm sure that's not the reason they were introduced, but it's not a bad "side effect."

My 20/2 is counterbalanced. I believe all the Anand two cylinder listeroids are counterbalanced.
I have an Anand (Powerline) 12/2 and it is a very close copy of the Dursley product (ie external counterbalancing).I'd guess that the 16/2 is similar as it's basically the same engine. The "stretched" versions (20/2 and up) were invented  ;) in India and that seems to be where internal counterbalancing started. I'd say that they've improved the design (theoretically at least) by this change .Good idea Athul!

How strange every 2 cylinder crank I've seen is 180 which is naturally balanced

You didn't see my Dursley  10/2 trying to hop out of the door then ;D ;D

FMV,
     Congratulations! I think you've discovered a new species!(Listeroidus 12/2 counterbalancii?  :D)

I've never heard of a counterbalanced 12/2 . No reason why not though. It has to be better than having all of that weight doing its thing on the opposite sides of the main bearings. Any sign of drillings to say that it's been individually balanced?

Brian
