Wow!!! that engine went for $1530  :o, hope the buyer  got a starting handle to go with it, as there was no mention of one in the listing. Someone should start thinking about shipping a crate load of single cylinder Lister aircooled engines from the UK if those sort of prices are being realised this close to Christmas.

I would have thought that ebay item http://cgi.ebay.com/Lister-HR2-G-Industrial-Natural-Gas-Engine-Cores-/180448183293?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a038cc3fd would have being a better choice for a home brew power system for anyone who has a natural gas supply to thier house. Although obvoiusly needing a rebuild it would still be alot cheaper in the long run. The seller has being listing these items for months and cant seem to shift them, even though the asking price has steadily being reduced over time.

Did you ever locate these items for your SR1 engine?

The govenor weights, govenor springs, and speeder springs are still available through the Lister-petter dealer network.

A word of caution though, you really need to refer to the workshop manual before you ask the dealer about springs, as there is a bewildering choice. Also you will need to dismantle part of the govenor linkage to change the weights, and the manual gives you the correct dimensions for putting it all back together.

All of the springs are colour coded according to the speed range they cover.

Generators / Re: Drop in engine speed and voltage

Its running fine with a load of about 2kw however if I switch on something else of a high-ish wattage, my water pump for example, I can hear the engine speed drop a little and the voltage drops from 220v to around 200. It’s never done this before even when running kettles heaters etc at the same time. I’ve checked all the cabin wiring which is fine so its defiantly a problem with the generator.

Sounds more likely a problem with the engine. Because as the generator takes the load the engine is not responding with a proportional increase in the fueling to compensate for the additional load imposed on it.

I myself would start looking at the fuel pump linkages to ensure they move freely, perhaps even remove the fuel pump cover and observe what the linkage does when the engine has the load applied to it. As the prevoius poster asked, will manual intervention on the pump rack linkage bring the engine speed back up.

Some information you might find useful before considering purchasing this item:

Not sure if the RPM (2250 RPM) indicated on the tag is the engine RPM or the output shaft RPM. The output shaft turns at TWICE the engine RPM. Engine governor is adjustable.

The engine will run at the stated RPM, the output shaft on the camshaft end runs at 1/2 engine speed.

Whilst the engine govenor is adjustable, it can only be used to make a +/- 5% change in engine speed, beyond this you will need to start thinking about changing govenor weights, and springs (all of which are internal).

This engine is anti-clockwise rotation (notice the unusual flywheel fanshroud and the letter Z in the serial number), if you have ever started an anticlockwise rotation engine, it feels alien compared to a clockwise rotation engine. The starting handles are interchangable, providing you turn the pawl though 180 degrees.

It is a Lister SL engine and not LD as the seller has described. This is an uprated version of the LD and has a 3.3/16" bore compared to the LD 3" bore. Hence there are many internal detail differences, and piston components are starting to get tricky to source if you want genuine OEM parts.

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Re: WWII Lister 3 Cylinder on Ebay

Thats not a Lister engine, where is the COV assembly's for a start.

The fact this engine is fitted with a propriety make of govenor (ACME ?) Listers always made their own govenors, and the unusual vertical mounting arangement for the dynamo should make it possible to identify.

It may have being an auxillary ships diesel engine, as it has a split crankcase allowing it to be dismantled in situ, without the need to disturb the lower half of the crankcase.

Things I want to Buy / Re: Wanted - Lister LR1
« on: December 21, 2010, 09:31:53 AM »
Does it have to be be a lister LR1, as you are restricting your choice significantly.

Listers also made LD, SL, SR, and ST engines in single cylinder format. Whilst there are differences the external dimensions are near identical, as they all have the same mounting dimensions for bolting the engine down, and also share the same crankshaft height, so from this perspective are fully interchangable.

From a weight perspective there is also little difference to choose between these models.

Its a shame your not in the UK, as these later engines still live in the shadows of the Lister CS, and this is reflected in the asking price. For instance last month I went to the local rubbish dump and came back with a lister ST1A, which cost me 10 GPB. It needed a few bits to make it run nice, but its now my spare sawbench engine, which presently has a Lister SR1 engine on it.

These engines are much more robust than the CS, and will take alot of punishment. Or if you look after them they will be as reliable as any CS. If you know where to go for genuine OEM spare parts, they are also freely available.

Petteroids / Re: any information would help

The number you quote does not relate to any air cooled Petter engine I am familiar with, the engine type is usually contained within the serial number, failing that perhaps we could see a photo ?

Lister Based Generators / Re: SR2 wvo
« on: November 23, 2010, 03:18:56 PM »
Hello br549,
No personal experience with wvo in a Lister SR, but the usual rule is that precombustion (indirect injection) engines are more suited to wvo than direct inject engines. Seem to recall that an SR is an oddity which has direct inject, and a pintle type injector.

You are thinking of the Lister LD and LR engines in that context. The SR engine is fitted with a long stem nozzle, as you would see on a conventional direct injection engine. Although the SR injector assy is unusual in that most of the injector stem is covered (with only the end being visible) by the part which holds the injector nozzle on to the injector body.

^ Indeed!, Just to see how good this item was I didn't bother with any pre-treatment works ie no cleaning up the keyway groove, no heating the hub, or hitting it with a hammer etc. Although the keys were tight, I was able to remove all of them with the 1/2" ratchet you see hanging off the end of the tool.

The hydraulic puller you also see, although being at the limit of its size capacity dealt with pulling the flywheel, and flat belt pulley with ease.

click on the insert image icon as it appears you did, you notice that the img/img in inside two sets of square brackets [ ] [ ]  separate them between the two sets & insert ypur image code between & that should do it.

Thats exactly what I tried first of all, and got the same result as you. Anyway I have now also placed these photos in the Lister engine gallery as well.
