I use full strength antifreeze, mixed 50% with De Ionized water

Why Now ?   because in the thick gloom of the fires near here last week, the water smelled "off" when it got hot.
It was literally Rat Soup in the open tank.  Now I have to put a screen over the top.  About 10 years, no rust seen.

Friend of mine is jealous and looking for his own slow speed diesel for generator use.  Thought I'd ask here first for him.

Had another bolt break today.   1/2" di, 20tpi ( fine thread ) It was magnetic SS, USA made not chinese pot metal  (the cast iron was not damaged, I caught it early)

I've been wary of grade 5 & 8 because I've understood they are tough, but brittle and would not last long on a listeroid

What does the hive mind think ?

I've heard tell of get graded bolts, heat them up to temper their brittle hardness and let them cool slowly.   But would that soften them too much ?

My NiFe thinking:
 Long rainy winters - tough to keep FLA batteries up and non-sulfated
 Cold temps, all batteries loose capacity, so over-size the bank
 NiFe are high internal resistance compared to FLA and so another oversize to allow for that.
 Wide voltage swing full to low, select charge controllers and inverter that can allow for that voltage

Any reports from owners in the area ?   Forecast is a mess, expecting weeks without power poles to carry wires.

Last Tues, I was on one of the 3 flights into Boston after the Nor'easter blasted the state.
 Airport was a ghost town, 150 passengers leaving the plane & 1 TSA agent holding the exit door open. 90 min wait for a taxi. all hotels sold out.
I got to Cape Cod the next day, and much of the cape was out of power. I heard 3600 RPM generators buzzing like bees all over.  Today, noon Friday, still areas out of power, many business still shut down.
 My Dad dumped a load of bad gas into the tank of his generator, ran for a couple minutes, and then died. Going to flush the thing out Saturday and try to put it away after it's run a bit.  Got my seafoam and carb cleaner spray to de-goop the rig.

 
 
Someones going to loose something.   Our subaru AWD, 5sp stick shift, was due for it's 60K mile service.  Supposed to include  change F & R differential oil. Since it's AWD front engine, the Trans is also the front differential.  Service done last week.
First thing, I noticed the oil change reminder sticker in the windshield, listed the wrong grade of oil 5-30 instead of the required 0-20 ( should be OK )
 Today, on a 400 mile trip to the skin Dr for some pre-cancerous surgery, Bang.  Vrooomm.   car slows down.    Odd, it popped out of 5th gear at 70mph on flat ground.
back in gear, set cruise control.   10 min later Bang.  Vrooomm.   car slows down.   Again.   Now resting my hand on the shifter,   Bang.  Vrooomm.  Ouch that kicked my hand hard.   Ok, 4th gear 4K RPM and 60mph for the rest of the trip.  Call the dealer from the Dr office, oh, sure it's OK, manuals don't do that,  safe to drive home with, it won't seize up on the road  very reliable, never heard of that before.   Head back , 5th gear for 20 min then Bang.  Vrooomm  nope, still no better.  Got to the dealer 5 min before closing, insisted they look at it.   No juice in the gearbox.  Whoops.   Well, it's filled now and should be OK.  Good strong transmission, it'll be fine.

Fine my eye, the Mfg (If I can find a working address) is going to get an earful.  Then I relaxed with the Listeroid for 2 hrs charging batteries tonight in anticipation of a big storm hitting tomorrow AM and not wanting to go out in it.

So, when running, how often do folks oil the
rockers & valve stem tips
pushrods, uppers and lowers
valve sumps  (30 wt or 90 wt ? )
fuel pump cam follower piston
