Listeroid Engines / I like the Kit idea...
« on: August 18, 2006, 05:30:25 PM »
As many of you already know, you can get a shortblock from one supplier then order the head and other miscellaneous parts from another. These spare parts can then be assembled by you into a running engine. To me this will turn out to be a great advantage for us.

The main thing is that others in our hobby can get free access to engines again. This might not be a big deal because I still see some dealers have complete engines for sale despite the EPA rules. But with the kits, you can "build it as you like it" and not have to sign any forms.

For me, I wanted a 6/1 for a generator but it wouldn't put out enough KW for my needs. Not being able to afford two engines I bought a 10/1. Still wanted a 6/1 because it is slower and quieter and more like a real Lister. With the advent of kit engines, I might be able to buy a set of 6/1 flywheels and some parts for my governer and theoretically I would have a 6/1. So, now one engine becomes two types. Great for experimental purposes.

It may also be easier to get spares for those of us who have engines and want to make other modifications/improvements but still be able to go back to their original configuration if something goes awry.

Anyone on the board buying a kit? Your thoughts?

Listeroid Engines / When a Listeroid is no longer a Listeroid
« on: July 11, 2006, 10:32:25 PM »
Just wondering out loud: if a Listeroid were imported into Canada and combined with a generator head on a common frame, would they then be considered a "generator" for the purpose of sale? They could then be sold and exported as generators to the US, no?
Could any of our Canadian friends look into this?

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid? What about Arrow?
« on: March 22, 2006, 02:49:36 PM »
Hey you guys, didn't know where to post this but its here for now.
I remember reading a couple of threads where folks mentioned Arrow's big single-flywheel engines used on oil rigs. I know from contacting Arrow that they discontinued the diesel line a few years ago.  Doug Waggoner said he works there. Hey Doug, can you get a used rebuildable diesel versions of this engine for a good price? They are an awesome engine, made in the USA and no EPA or Indian quality issues. Most likely, the Listeroid will always be a "kit" and originals are way "across the pond" so why not explore an engine "kit" already here? What would a "core engine" cost? Anyone know?

Listeroid Engines / Has the EPA doomed the future of our engines?
« on: March 08, 2006, 10:40:39 PM »
Gentlemen. Is our supply of listeroids really cut off? Utterpower is not bringing in any more engines and I thought if anyone could figure out a way around the regulations, they could. I tried to read through the EPA regs and got lost.
Fortunately I have a couple of Listeroids purchased before the ban. Just a quick look at Montieth's website says he is out of stock too.
We can all stick together and share information but eventually no one will be able to get one of these. Any of you guys have a solution in mind?
