We have the Bamfords Z4 about 80% finnished. Waiting on some parts and then we have to build a trolly, uh cart (been on the English boards LOL) for it. We also have a 1939 6/1 Lister to go completely through and another cart to build. That ought to keep us  out of trouble until spring or so.

It is hard to go wrong with Shell Rotella. I have never been one to use cheap lubricants.

Two things

Didn't Willie say here that a Listeroid running was a sure fire way to attract the ladies?

Yeah, RBodell stopped posting her becasue he would only use a gmail account.. and was upset because his account got banned, and he was most miffed at me for banning gmail.... I just went through 60 pages of registerations... all spam, or at least 90%

Oh well

Your doing a fine job here IMO, Thanks. Moderating forums is thankless work most of the time.

What do you do with the dead crap when you're finished with the cleaning process?

Threw it in the creek,,,,,,  ;D

Seroiusly I'm no eco nut but I wouldnt dump that junk anywhere. I put a lid on the drum and parked it under a roof til next time which was just recently as we are going through a Bamfords Z4 8HP, then its on to a 6/1 Lister next. Wasnt any swarf floating on top. Wasnt curious enough to investigate whats on bottom.  Plans for now (if I get done with it) is to boil it all the way down to the salts, was a bout 2 gallons of Crystols and the swarf. The box it up. Every spring a local group of eco nazis has a hazardous dump for free day and Ill kindly let them have it.

We used caustic to clean up a Metro Listeroid and all we did was cut the top out of a 55gallon drum and build a wood fire under it. The actual cleaning time wasnt very long for our parts but they were not filthy with grease. We were mainly stripping paint and body putty from the Indian castings. Took most all day on a Saturday to clean an entire 6/1, about 2 hours per each batch of parts. We kept the mixture just at boiling as it seems the rolling effect helps the cleaning. I searched the internet for mixing ratios and found them to be widely varied. We used 1 lb lye to 5 gallons of water. Be very carefull around the caustic, wear eye protection.

Amazing what they paint over aint it? Oven cleaner from the dollar store will strip the rest of that paint if you desire. If you cant find Gyptol for a decent price this is what I used. Came from WW Grainger, same stuff, different Mfg.

Used it inside and out dries hard as glass.

No reason to do the import thing yourself and suffer all the cost as a group of folks are allready working to fill a container, you might as well join in the more the merrier. Here is a link to a discussion here. PM Drdeath about it, I think he is the ring leader. Also would add that twins, especialy ready to run are not easy to come by even over ithere. Not wanting to rain on your parade, just preparing you for the facts.

Lister Based Generators / Re: stuck injection pump
« on: October 14, 2010, 01:35:19 PM »
Are you sure it is stuck? On our 24/2 the pump and injector on the left side when viewed from that side of the engine is a pure SOB to bleed out because of the way the feed line comes from other pump and the hump in the middle it was air locked as Listard said. The way we finaly got it bled was to let the engine idle on the one cylinder and unpinned the rack on the left one and held it wide open, still took about 10 minutes for it to pump a few drops and then foth and foam for another 10 before it finaly would fire the injector.
