Listeroid Engines / Re: WMO 16/2 head

Thank you for posting the numbers!
While I don't burn WMO I remember the big hullabaloo on the site concerning it wearing out your engine  and I am thinking gesh?? ??? Isn't rocket science type math to figure a person just ran ??? hours on basically free fuel and a few dollars worth of repair parts  VS burning $4 #2 diesel.  Without running any numbers at all it was obvious to me that overhauling the top end more often while burning free fuel is cheaper than buying $4 diesel.

To balance the cylinders on your twin.
The  springs you speak about are a great help in keeping the cylinders balanced once set correctly  but I have found the manual procedure for setting the racks to be of little use other than to get the engine started.  They way I balance mine is with a temp gun (about $30 at HF and on sale often) and adjusting the cross linkage to #2 until the exhaust temps are the same. You need a load, even a slight one to do this correctly. Another way to do it without the gun is to load the engine to the point of slight exhaust smoke and adjust so both cylinders smoke evenly. I realize that few have the fancy tools to do it this way so  I have played around quite a bit with one of my twins in an effort to come up with a procedure to set the racks while not running but have yet to come up with anything satisfactory.

Generators / Re: western style rectifiers fo ST?

OK one more question.
I plan on removing my good factory installed rectifier and installing one of the replacements to test output, heat sink etc. Question is,  Does the load on the rectifier change with the load on the head?  Seems like it would remain constant? This is of course important as for testing.

Told yall I was challenged 'lectricaly  ??? ???

Guess this subject has been beat around too much. For better or worse just ordered a ST-10 for my lister. Frank C.

My heating is same as yours with an OWB ;)

I don't have enough operating experience to answer questions like that but before I bought mine I read many pages here and over at the other forum. Seems like the general consensus is to stay away from Indian units, remove the factory doghouse and replace with a good UL junction box large enough to contain the connections and check the bearings for quality and replace them if questionable and always replace the factory grease with American made stuff. I would not be supprized if some of the issues have been addressed by Tom Osborn as he is very quality orientated.but you will know when you get your units. If the doghouse and connection board seems cheesy then you need to plan on upgrading. I have ST5 and 15 from him and they are both producing very nice power, Hz and volts are fine without any add on regulators and they operate everything at the house just like line power as far as I can tell.

I really want to check out the "stuff" in your shop.

We visited Gary last summer when I went to KS to visit my son.  His operation is pretty impressive.

Now that my lifetime supply of bridge diodes has arrived next question is how to make a homemade heatsink?  My recifiers are mounted in home brew connection boxes so I have some rooom. On Ebay there purpose built heat sinks for like $4 shipped, should I just splurge on a coupe of these?

Paul, they tell me over on the English engine site that it is 1927-8. Took little to get it started and runs decently.

I ordered a few from Surplus Center thanks guys!

Was looking around on Ebay this AM and found this unbelieveable deal,, 10 for $16 includeing shipping from China ???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-KBPC5010-KBPC-5010-50A-1000V-Bridge-Rectifier-/370613060615?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564a428407

Those out of country low ball deals on Ebay used to scare me,, still do actualy but a buddy recently ordered two batteries and a wall charger for his Droid for like $9 and they actualy arrived! and work perfectly. So I did same for my Blackberry for $11 and they arrived and work perfectly also???  Funny thing is we took the postage from the envelopes and converted it to US dollars and all they did was recover postage with a few cents left over for the items. Guess people leave Chinese factories with full lunchboxes too?? LOL

We use our STs for power outages only so we have the option of leaving some sensitive things off like the PC. Of course everything has a micro processor these days it seems? At our house the gas furnace, outdoor wood stove, water conditioning system and even the dang fridge has them. We have been on generator power only once since I built mine up but the only differance from grid power we have noticed is a bit of flicker. Its of course  less noticeable with the Chinese engine at 1950 RPM than the 6/1 but like I tell the wife 'tis easy to fix dear, shut the lights off,, ;D

Decent buy if you knock off the allowed $200 for the electric equipment if you dont want it.

Don't mean to play armchair forum moderator but there is a seperate section for for sale items,  :police:     ;D ;D
