Thank you for posting the numbers!
While I don't burn WMO I remember the big hullabaloo on the site concerning it wearing out your engine and I am thinking gesh??
Isn't rocket science type math to figure a person just ran
hours on basically free fuel and a few dollars worth of repair parts VS burning $4 #2 diesel. Without running any numbers at all it was obvious to me that overhauling the top end more often while burning free fuel is cheaper than buying $4 diesel.
To balance the cylinders on your twin.
The springs you speak about are a great help in keeping the cylinders balanced once set correctly but I have found the manual procedure for setting the racks to be of little use other than to get the engine started. They way I balance mine is with a temp gun (about $30 at HF and on sale often) and adjusting the cross linkage to #2 until the exhaust temps are the same. You need a load, even a slight one to do this correctly. Another way to do it without the gun is to load the engine to the point of slight exhaust smoke and adjust so both cylinders smoke evenly. I realize that few have the fancy tools to do it this way so I have played around quite a bit with one of my twins in an effort to come up with a procedure to set the racks while not running but have yet to come up with anything satisfactory.
