Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Englands Farm dependence on Lister
« on: January 13, 2019, 08:21:03 PM »
Same thing with old John Deeres.  i remember one from the '50s with a "bomb" start.  Common, I think

My old 1955 Deere has a flathead v-4 gasoline engine to start the 2 cyl diesel. Never heard of a "bomb" start John Deere, but I would be very interested in that possibility.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Hello Everyone, an other 6/1 owner

Welcome! I too searched for a 'roid for a long time and finally found one about 550 miles away 4 or 5 years ago. And it's still not running.
It was supposed to be new, and I suppose it is in view of run time, but I think it has sat out in the weather for a while, and I will have to de-rust the internals.  I don't seem to be as motivated as I used to be....

I am giving serious consideration to a Nissan Leaf, but I am NOT going to take the depreciation hit on a new one. They seem to lose value
at the rate of 15-16k the first year and less after that. Also it looks like Nissan is not standing behind the battery warranty very well, and the range drops off after a while, but still after all the cons, I think one would suit my daily commute very well.

Like Casey, I would love to see the video of the beast being moved! Good build, and a very ingenious use of rubber chock blocks, I may  have to borrow that idea.

laying waste to the neighborhood.

Got a good chuckle out of that one. Had a good mental image of a giant green chunk of metal bouncing around the neighbor’s yard.

Things I want to Buy / Re: Good News 2018

No rest for the wicked, LG

Just to finish December off I'm fitting a Yanmar single diesel into  (on to?) another snowblower.

Another mate up here bought it brand new and put the oil in it, like wot the lable said, on the return run up his 100 meter drive the sump plug, which the willy Chinese hadn't tightened dropped out, 20 meters after that the big end locked up and then one of the bolts let go.

The Loncin snowblower motors have a crank shaft take off that's different - longer - than any other and no one anywhere in Europe imports them as complete motors or spares. It's shame 'cos opened up it's a nicely made bit of kit but as the crank is scored and the big end doesn't have a bearing as such, there's little else that can be done.

Cheers
Stef

Well...... you could have the crank undersized and cut some off the rod cap and rebore it to fit the crank. I would give it a try I think.

On the happenings of the year, I can't remember a funeral this year either. Thanks Glort for bringing that to mind!!
My Daughter and her Fiance sent the wife and I on a cruise to the Bahamas, and now firsthand I realize just how spoiled and fortunate (or is it privileged? ) that most of us here in the States are.

Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year to all.

Here in Tennesee, United States, North America, Earth, the Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy, possession of weed will get your property, possessions, money etc, confiscated by Law Enfarcement, to be used in the War On Drugs. War is a Fucking Joke. Control is the correct term.
If you have a legitimate need for THC to combat epilepsy, Parkinson's, horrible pain that the Govt sanctioned opioids (very controlled and expensive)
won't touch, then you are a criminal and as such "Shit out of Luck". I really hate the way our government has been stolen and bastardized.
Wow, I am coming across a little Bitter, sorry.
Ron.

PS. In my defense, I am under the influence of those same aforementioned opioids due to "Balloon Sinuplasty" earlier today. Yes it hurts!

I have seen just a flat strip of metal with a few twists in it used in gas water heater tubes here. Come to think of it, the old 5hp flathead briggs and stratton also had one in the intake manifold/carb, I guess to swirl the fuel air mix.

Keep on inventing!

I really do love this forum. Genuine people, with real lives and the associated trials and joys thereof.

Ron.

PS. Johndoh, you really should look at Evan Williams, much smoother IMHO. :o

You know, rednecks are all over the world, and I don't think it's a bad thing at all!

On the clutch thing, you could remove half of the springs in the pressure plate and still have more than enough clutch for the horsepower.
Cuts way down on the thrust pressure. My 69 International cub loboy has the clutch and pressure plate mounted on the tranny, driven from the engine mounted flywheel via a driveshaft, and only 3 one inch or so coil springs in the pressure plate. Oh and the clutch disk is about 6 inches in diameter.

I use a 1960's vintage Black & Decker 8" snag grinder that I paid 5 bucks for at a flea market. I got 2 at that price, the thher is from the 50's but needs brushes. Yeah, I'm a cheapskate.
