Well that simplifies things considerably. I'll route it to the filter. Thanks Hugh

OK... Racor has been ordered. What are your thoughts on running the fuel return line to the filter? as opposed to the tank. I've read some guys are doing this but not sure if it makes sense.

So would you recommend putting in a pre filter ahead of the Racor? And I'm assuming the Racor filter needs to be placed lower than my fuel tank?

Thanks.. Was just confused about the "secondary" filter note.

So what does a water separator get me? I understand that if I do not run my engine for awhile if there is water in the fuel  it will settle to the bottom of these filter/separator bowls to be drained out.
But if there is water in the bottom of this filter wouldn't there be a boatload more water setting in the bottom of my tank? These do not work like an agglomorator  so I'm just confused about their usefulness.  My 86 diesel Jetta had a water separator exactly where it should be.. at the bottom of the tank. You were supposed to every once in awhile push the check valve and drain the water out.

General Discussion / Fuel filter recommendation please

I'm looking at getting a "better" fuel filter system for my Perkins 402d-05 engine. Currently, I have the typical pleated filter in the little plastic housing (with the shut off lever) but was looking at a genuine Perkins filter set up. I was all set to buy this an noticed in the description that is said..."complete secondary fuel filter". So now I'm confused. Do I need an additional fuel filter in my system? This was going to be my primary (and only) filter.

Generators / Re: Need some input on buying a Stamford Generator Head

. I’m working on a 1988 Ford F-150 with a 4.9, 5 speed. Only 69,000 miles. Converting the ignition system to A Dura Spark ll distributor to trigger an MSD 6AL controller. The fuel injection system is being converted to Holley’s 2300 Snipper EFI system.
Got tired messing with the OEM equipment. I hope to have it running soon.

1972 Chevy Vega Wagon, Nice! The last year when they looked good. They are starting to become collectors. A person down the road has a yellow one. It looks very nice.

My daily driver is a 1989 F150 6 cyl with a C6 trans. It is in almost mint condition, everything works as it should. I even replaced the AC system and filled it with R12 (that I have a small supply of). I just reupholstered the front bench seat and added a seat heater. It looks better than when it left the factory.

Thanks Henry, A single bearing head never crossed my mind. When the time comes (hopefully in a month or 2) I'll look into it more. I already have the stub shaft mounted but it does seem like it would be easier to just direct bolt the gen head to the engine. BTW, come to think of it the original gen head was a direct bolt on so single bearing is making more sense.

I've had these engines/ST heads for over 10 years now and am finally getting around to doing something with them. I bought a Redstone from John F, built an I-beam platform for it and put an ST on it but never hooked anything up. I just wrapped it up and put in storage. I did the same thing for the Listeroid I bought from George @Uttepower. I'm finally to the point in my life that I can start working on these. So much to do though. I still have to reassemble  my '73 Ford F100 and rebuild the transmission on my '74 ford Econoline and lets not forget about my '72 Vega Wagon that I want to restore to its original condition (I'll be keeping the original 4 cyl engine). Oh.. and then there's the 11115 Laidong and the '86 Turbo Diesel Jetta.

It has the big flywheel. I got this maybe 10 years ago. The engine runs beautifully but the gen head on it was shot. It was set up to run at 1800 rpm. It's next in line after I finish Rev3 of the Cat build. All I need for the D905 is the Gen head. I have the stub shaft already mounted and a Love Joy coupler just waiting for some love from a gen head.

Thanks for the info.
Yes my engine has about a 4 inch deep oil pan. I did not know there were other size oil pans. Why would that make a difference ?

I keep getting a warning from Malware bytes about Microcogen. I know it was hacked awhile ago. Is the site safe and I can ignore the warning?

Yes, I will be running my Cat at about 2400-2600 rpm. Can't remember the exact rpm but I remember having a pully made to coincide with the Cat's maximum torque.

I'm still a little confused about derating an older style ST head. It is my understanding that you derate so as to not burn up the genhead but since this head is so massive I'm somewhat confused. I don't think I'll ever pull 7.5kw from my house but I am just curious.

Generators / ST Generator Head Question
« on: December 24, 2020, 07:45:35 PM »
I'm finally putting my Perkins/ST head together and have a question about ST heads in general. I know that typically you don't want to exceed 80% of the rated output of your head for long periods. Is this true for the massive ST heads? I have one of the old Power Solutions heads sold by George via Utterpower. It weighs well over 200 pounds (7.5 kw). I've read that these will run continuous for days and never get warm. So, can I run this at 7.5 continuous or should I down rate it?

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Re: Is a 1115 a 1115 regardless of who makes it

I also bought mine from John along with a Redstone. Both have been setting in my garage for..10-12 years (lost track of time). They are lined up next to my Listeroid. I'm now to the point in my life I can start working on all of these..1 at a time.

I built up a Cat/ST head a few years ago but was not happy with the vibration. I just tore it down and am going to make a new stand for it. Once that's done I'll do my 3 Cyl Kubota with the Stamford clone gen head. then..... I'll get on that Laidong. Just spent a few weeks insulating my garage, fixing my torpedo heater and cleaning up, so now I'll be able to work during the winter.

Yes, I did get a kit with the engine but forgot all about it till you just mentioned it. I'll dig it out this weekend and see what I have. Thanks

Maybe an odd question but call me cautious when it comes to ordering Chinese stuff so... I have a Laidong 1115 and am planning to buy spare parts via Ali-Express. I am assuming a 1115 head gasket, rings etc are all the same regardless of manufacturer... am I assuming correct?

Thanks

Thanks Gary, I'll make a bracket when I get the head. Critical loads?.. Kids that keep getting more and more sophisticated gaming software but the real critical load is my wife!... can't have the TV go on and off like it does with my 10hp Honda gasser.

Thanks Gary, Appreciate the feedback. I already have the hub mounted and a LoveJoy just setting around waiting for some Love from a Gen head. What/how/why does the Stamford head flex? Are they not mounted to the frame like an ST head would be?
