Listeroid Engines / Balancing 10/1 w/ stover flywheels
« on: July 01, 2007, 03:21:22 PM »
Does the Mr. X method of chalk and stick and adding weight to the flywheel work on the Stover wheels?  Can you get a 10/1 to run at 1000RPM and be smooth?    Thanks Jim

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Lister stopping when hot
« on: April 12, 2007, 01:29:53 PM »
Could be that your engine is operating at a hotter temp than it should and your cylinder wall restricts the piston.  Could have a hot spot or star on the cylinder wall that when hot restricts the piston.

My JD 4020 tractor does this.  Put it on a dyno with a big load, it gets hotter than normal operating temps. and seizes up.  Cool it down and it will start right up.  It has to get above normal temps for this to happen.
Check your cooling system.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Correct size engine/gen. combo

I called for a price last Tuesday and the price was $3.10 and climbing.  I chickened out.  I'll wait and see what happens. In the Clinton years I paid $.65  Create a shortage when the easterners' are starting to fill their furnace tanks.  Its tuff to farm at these prices.

This time next year I will be homesteading land i own Down River on the Salmon, 55 miles from Salmon, Idaho and 35 miles from power poles. The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness is out the back door and the Selway-Bitterroot wilderness is out the side door.  Together there is over 3 million acres of roadless area, the largest roadless area in the lower 48.
I needed engines that are efficient, simple, cheap, quite, and sound good.  Living in a river canyon there will be two months in winter with no direct sun, because of the high canyon walls.  The listeroids will be generating and battery charging.  I'll also use some solar. I can't wait!!

General Discussion / Re: picked up a toyo diesel pickup :)
« on: July 08, 2006, 04:44:56 AM »
I have never met a dodge cummins owner that didn't think their engine was the best available.  Many have lasted longer than a million miles.  I have met many ford owners that would love to have the cummins in their ford.  I don"t think there is a big problem with the vp-44 pump.  There is problem with the lift pump that feeds it.  Many change out the computer controled vp-44 and use the p-7100 pump which was used in the 12 valve engine.  The p-7100 can pump more fuel.  The Dodge cummins still rules at the drag race track.

The same can be said of Fire Lookouts.  Fire lookout towers are the inland brother to coastal lite houses.

General Discussion / Re: Hardware count
« on: July 03, 2006, 04:04:29 PM »
Years ago a friend started his spark plug count.  I caught on and added pneumatic tires.  On the Arborsite.com website, there was a cylinder count  Sort of a "Gee how much equipment have I accumulated" gauge!  So I had the list of pneumatic tires and spark plugs. I added internal combustion cylinders to the count.

Pneumatic tires - 93
Spark Plugs - 56
Cylinders - 79

Of course at any one time there at least a half dozen flats. Other cylinders are ommited such as hydraulic or in water pumps pumps. More of my equipment is diesel now depressing the spark plug count. 4 spark plugs are in chain saws, 2 in my old Disston DA211, 12 in the airplane, etc.

Of course the Lister can only contribute 2 in the cylinder collumn....

As I tell people, "I'm adding inventory for the estate sale".  LOL

What is your total?

Bob
I added up my stuff .

     93 pneumatic tires
     67 cylenders
     45 plugs
The list includes: chain saws, 4-wheelers, motorcycle, listeroids, 2 dodge cummins, backhoe, swather, jd4020, 2 ton truck, cars, lycoming 0-360, and farm implements.
Alot of shit.  And I am moving next year!

In a year I will be off grid. Power lines will be 34 miles away. I am looking to buy a new Mig Welder and need to figure what is the biggest amperage welder I can push with a 6/1-ST5 or 10/1-ST5. Thanks JP
