Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Re: Lister Engines For Sale
« on: September 29, 2016, 03:12:01 PM »
I'll have my last radiotherapy dose tomorrow, or being 'microwaved' as we call it!  then I'll be starting to return to normality as the chemicals wash out of my system (last chemotherapy was 22nd August)

We had the Ruston 1ZHR  engine & trailer out last weekend at a show down in Sussex, nice to have a weekend away.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: happy birthday to me

1937 looks fine, all Cold Start 5/1, 6/1, 10/2 and 12/2 numbers ran together, there is no separate list.

The factory shipped out 5/1 or 6/1 and 10/2 or 12/2 according to customer needs, they were the same engines, just different RPM.

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Lister Engines For Sale
« on: August 29, 2016, 11:22:58 AM »
I have been storing these engines for 12 years now, the buyer hasn't collected them as promised and I'm not paying storage any longer, so they are going up for sale.

Lister 16/2 on generator base
Lister CE Twin
Lister FR1
Lister FR2
Lister SOM set

All are in steel stillages so can be shipped as a pallet.

All are in the UK.

You must arrange collection and payment.

I'll get some pictures up later this week.

I've had a heart valve operation, followed by breast cancer, so the last 12 months haven't been a lot of fun, but we are starting to get out again with the Ruston engine, we were at Lincoln Steam Rally last weekend.

Both the Rustons are up for sale, the 1YB has provisionally sold, the 1ZHR is still available.

Lister Based Generators / Lister JK4 37.5kVA Generator
« on: November 18, 2014, 05:40:16 PM »
I have been offered a JK4 lighting set by a member on another forum.

As I already have one, I'm obviously not in the market, but it's available for £1250 ex-site.

 Here is the message:

"Morning Peter, I forgot to mention it before but we are trying to tidy the place a bit and need to clear a few things. I have a Lister JK4 lighting set 37.5kva if I remember right. it was working as a standby generator at the docks. For the past year or two its been outside under a sheet. I have too many projects and have come to realise that this one is not going to get done. If you can think of anybody for it I would like £1250. When put away it would turn with a bar but have not checked it since. If I was to do it I would strip it and fit rings and grind the valves. cheers john."

If anyone is seriously interested, PM me for the seller's details.

I have no financial involvement, buyer deals direct with the seller.

Had to come back, our new project is waiting:

It's a 6 ton Mercedes 614D minibus that we are converting to a motorhome or RV in USA/Can terminology.

We have also bought a quite rare Stuart-Turner H series diesel genny that will travel in the back, in the engine bay under the bed.

Got to get that ready for Nuenen next year, plus the new Ruston, so going to be busy!

The larger the engine, the cheaper they get.

Very few are used for generation over here as we have a very good National Grid which doesn't really give you a chance to run your own genny unless you are out in the wilds somewhere.

I'm just back from 3 weeks in California, didn't see an engine in all that time.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: British Container Shipment

Journey's end:

It landed on the 4th July, it's been all this time getting sorted out, which at one point involved Customs voiding Tim's Social Security Number and other bureaucratic nonsenses.

It arrived about 06.30 local time....

Nobody looked at their bearings at all?

Peter

10
Drive end bearing is a 6307 Metric series bearing, not what I expected to find!

Shielded on one side only.

Peter

I've just bought a 4.5kVA SOM alternator, but those bearing numbers don't seem to match up to what I have, or at least one of them

MJ1-1/8 bearing at the commutator end, haven't got the drive wheel/flywheel off yet so don't know yet what that one is.

Are there other variations?

Reply from Ray Hooley this morning:

"1HR 288869, rated 5.5hp/550rpm, was sold on 19.1.1950, to Watford Technical  College, Little Cassiobury, Hempstead Road, Watford.

I don't have the erection dates, but it would have been erected towards the end of 1949."

So a 1940's engine by a few days

It is Watford UTC these days, but I have contacted them to ask about any archive material they may have for the engine. Ray has also sent me a package of info.

Here is another picture of it with the crank guard fitted:

The plan is to build a mini-version of the 1ZHR setup, I have acquired a Lister SOM alternator from the same guy, so just need to get some chassis members together and fabricate a chassis etc etc.

I'll post pictures as we go along.

The crank guard is not fitted, here's a picture of a nice one:

Here is the 1ZHR for comparison:

Both taken at the National Rail Museum, Shildon in April this year.
