I just used plenty of teflon pipe thread tape and installed standard NPT threaded hose barbs in my 6/1 Powerline engine.  The fittings tightened up OK and still do not leak.

Next time you are at SAV you could ask the paint shop guys for expired paint that they usually throw away.  I have used some of the expired Jet Glow with excelent results.  Price was right!

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Water leaking roid
« on: September 16, 2011, 07:20:05 PM »
Mine did exactly the same thing.  The water leaking from the base of the cylinder was caused from coolant leaking past the head gasket and draining into the cylinder stud holes in the cylinder block, then seeping out around the bottom of the cylinder.  I tried every trick to "reseal" the stock copper/paper head gasket and the best I could do was slow down the leaks.  One I installed the composite gasket using some hylomar around the water ports all was well.  I highly recommend buying several of these gaskets   http://www.ebay.com/itm/230632439673?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

You also should check the cylinder liner protrusion and correct any discrepancies or the composite gasket may not fix the problem, if it does fix the leak too much liner protrusion will destroy the gasket and definitely make the gasket a one time use.  When I took my engine apart I found my liner was protruding .016" above the cylinder deck surface!

I used a K&N filter left over from a cold air intake kit left over from my old Jeep.  The intake is made up of a short piece of threaded pipe and threaded pipe reducers that are threaded into the intake flange to increase the outside diameter.  This allowed me to use a silicone coupler to fit over the pipe reducers on the engine side, and to slide a short piece of aluminum tubing inside of the coupler and the K&N filter. The intake silencer is made from a windshield washer fluid bottle that uses two aluminum plates and screws to sandwich the filter end plate for a mount.   Hope this makes sense, if not let me know and I will take some pictures

I would do exactly what Thob said.  You don't have to strip the paint off of the outside if you don't want to, but you should get down to the clean shiny metal on the inside with a wire wheel of flap brush.  Having said that the pics do look like the engine is cleaner than most.

Why do you guys say jatropha is labor intensive?  Is it because you have to pick the seed pods by hand?  I do not have the equipment to harvest soybeans or sunflower.

That paint cost more than $300 a gallon.  i had to buy a quart of Imron 5000 paint, some thinner and some primer to repaint the cowling on my Piper a couple of years ago and it was a little over $400.  :o

I use the 6 gallon outboard tanks too, and like you I figured I might be able to find some pretty cheap.  Well after looking for a long time I just bought new ones at wally world, they were around thirty bucks last year, this year they are pushing fifty!  You can also get larger above deck plastic tanks at most boat stores.

This guy is on some serious drugs.  He also strikes me as the kind of perpetual victim that is making a living off of you and me through the federal government.

Horsepoor, if Chris does not want that extra flywheel I would LOVE to have it.

Chris, I don't know how much mass it would take to do the trick, or if it will even completely eliminate the flicker, however I think the large bearings of the ST-15 will support more of a shaft load than you are probably able to fit to it.  So if it were me I would go big or go home  :D

Tom from Georgia Generator is a great guy. I drove to Milledgeville and picked up my ST8 directly from Tom.  He was as nice and honest of a guy as they come.
