Hi Bob,

Sorry for calling you Ron in my previous post; I'd always thought the R was for Ron not Robert.  Not sure where I got that, but I apologize...

Do you know the reason for the prevalent use of white metal bearings instead of bronze?  Is it as simple as a cost issue?  The reason that I ask is the the CD and CE bearings are white metal backed by bronze.  I would have thought that Lister would have simply made them entirely from bronze since they were machining them from bronze anyway, so I'm trying to understand the purpose of the white metal.

It's very exciting that I can make them (or have them made) out of bronze.  Will they wear the crank any quicker if the engine is made to really work?

Also, what is the slitting saw that you used look like?  I've never seen one and a pic would be great if you get the chance.

Finally, thanks for the clearance info.

Again, nice work!

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Tom,

Wasn't trying to tease.  Figured that it'd take longer than 5 minutes for them to gone.

I tried to delete the original post and the forum wouldn't let me...

Sorry,

Steve

Watch craigslist in your area and just be patient.

Epay is more expensive and you usually end up also paying shipping.

You can search Craigslist in a radius around you using www.searchtempest.com

Just my $.02.

Good luck!

I happened to find the site below and felt the author a) knew what he was doing and b) validated that he knew what he was talking about with his results.

I thought others here would find it very interesting.

Also, don't miss checking out his home page as there is other cool stuff.

Enjoy,

Steve

Listeroid Engines / Re: HELP !!!!!
« on: November 11, 2010, 03:08:19 PM »
Ray,

If you're in a real jam and can't find one here in the States, Stationary Engine Parts also looks to have them as well as lots of other parts.  Shipping from the UK will be costly though.

http://www.stationaryengineparts.com/Crankshaft-Bearing-Carriers.html

I'd drop them a note just to verify that the TRB style has the 5 bolt holes.

They also carry the correct shims here:

If you can't find a crank gear, you might contact akghound as he found a new one someplace when he replaced his:

Finally, Vidhata is also always another option for parts:

Good luck!

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Access Again
« on: November 05, 2010, 03:04:24 AM »
Hi Mark,

I would like to welcome you to the forum!

I for one, can't wait to see what you and Pete are offering and will definitely be bidding on one or more.

Regarding Tim's comment, I vaguely remember Tim being frustrated by the shipping hassles and the add on costs at the US port in order to get his stuff released.  It ended up being a more expensive venture than he had planned, and I believe this was the source of his comment/frustration.

Nevertheless, I will soon be tackling a similar project, so we will have a very good idea of the ultimate costs once I'm done.

Mark and Pete, thank you for being willing to help us Yanks be able to acquire our own piece of British history!!!

Again welcome!

Best regards,

Steve

I'd buy one of these in a second if we could figure out some way to get them here.

Very nice!

I'd bet all of the tolerances and the metallurgy is how it's supposed to be...

Wow!

Things I want to Buy / Re: Oil ring or set needed for 6/1 GM-90
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:01:08 PM »
If I were you, I'd hone the cylinder and install a new ring set.

Food for thought as it's already apart and the difference in $$$ and effort is minimal.

Also sorry to hear of your problems.

I also will no longer ship via UPS under any circumstances.

They pulled a similar stunt on me denying a claim that there should have been no question about.

I should have sued them over it...
