Waste Motor Oil / Re: Wmo
« on: December 19, 2010, 12:44:31 PM »
I'm still setting up my system.
After I went through my Listeroid, I use diesel just to kind of break in the engine.
Been some sort of WMO from then on.
Filtering and PH are big issues.
New centrifuge is on it's way, filters to 1 micron.
I know guys that run WMO in trucks, haven't need to change the fuel filter in a year, after centrifuge cleaning.
Soon I will be running my shop, with the Listeroid and a Outback FLEXware 1000.
I generate a lot of used oil, trucks, tractors, etc. and have sources for more.

Filtering and ph are not a problem.
You don't need a centrifuge to filter,
Tipping in wmo to fuel tanks on trucks is a different thing to running a generator on wmo.
The percentage of wmo to diesel in the trucks is very low.
If you put wmo in a generator you are going to be running it on a very high percentage of wmo or else its not worth doing.
The filtering and ph of the oil is not the issue.

Some sort of WMO = All I have run in the Lister is 100 % WMO, hydraulic, trans, vacuum pump oil,  etc. after break in.
The guys running it in trucks are running more that tipping in WMO.
I'm thick as a brick, guess I'm not sure what your asking?
I run the Lister evertime I'm out there, almost everyday, lights, small air compressors, 110 volt welder, 3/4 hp water pump, furnace, etc.
Been running from June of 09.

Engines / Re: Adding a thermostat and housing using pipe fittings

That is a nice small unit.
You could tig the nipple, gasket the thermostat.
This is what I did for mine.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: New owner CS12/2 incl. Boat
« on: January 12, 2010, 01:17:00 PM »
Just an update!

The outside has been stripped from almost all the paint, also some of the rust still needs to be brushed away before painting.  I think that this will be 1 or 2 days more work.  :D After that I can start working on the inside, removing all the paint here too.  Once this is done I am going to make a list for cut and weld jobs. Because there are still some parts which needed to be weld. But I wont start painting before that has finnished, otherwise all the paint will melt of again  ;D

The last things that needs to be weld are not a big issue. You can clearly see on the photographs what results I get with the perago and a grindingtool? + brush. The perago is a tool which should give you comparable results like sandblasting. Its not so smooth as sanblasting but goog enough for the top part of the boat.
The new photographs can be viewed at: album -> 22-02

I think I need a 2 1/2 months more before the inside is bare metal and then I can also work on the engine.

That is awesome!
Looks like it belongs in a Jules Vern book, or fairy tale setting. Maybe Popeye cartoon.
None of the above is derogatory in any way, I'm jealous.
As someone else said I'm glad someone like you has her!!

Engines / Re: Lister engines in storage

Barry you really should sell them cheap fast before they're ruined!
I'll help you out!

There use to be a product that was in a spray can that would fill cavities with foam for long storage of pumps. Might look in that direction.

Couple points:
I think people are confusing absorption ammonia ie. RV refrigerators no compressor, with compression ammonia systems ie  like your standard AC or refrigerator, both are good but from one end of the spectrum to the other. some of the old ammonia compressors looked a lot like Lister engines.
LP system and ammonia systems could be done with out a deep vacuum, like other refrigerants need.

Hey jzjeeff and Bob, can you go into the PC and current probe to see sine wave form some more?
Most PC stuff that I looked at was as expensive as a small electronic scope.
Thanks

Beautiful place!  Welcome! I'm doing something similar.
I'm also new to Listeroids, do have some mechanical ability.
I've been working on one since early spring, have about 20-30 hours of hands on work, life time of research lol.
I'm far from being done but it's very usable.
Here is a thread on my Listeroid, might give you some ideas:

Listeroid Engines / Re: Another Listeroid rebuild to generator.

I added some better wiring, the generator will be portable for a year or so, then I'll isolate panel from the vibration.

Don't know where to start with this one!
Just going to throw some thoughts out there.
I thought I was the only one thinking about  this!

I've have plenty of refrigeration and HVAC experience. I would love to use ammonia for refrigeration, it takes about 1/7 the horse power to do the same cooling as R-22. Heck you could cool your house and still make electricity at the same time with a 6/1 !
I did a tour of Beatrice Foods in the late 70's they had numerous 3 phase, motor driven, open drive ammonia compressors that had been running 30 to 40 years flawlessly. One DRIVE in freezer was kept -10.

Back in the 70's I read a book about a guy in the UK that lived in a hundreds of years old castle like building with a water wheel.
He took two large Worthington * open drive compressors and had been heating mostly and cooling some, the place for free. At that time it never had be worked on for 30 years, I'm sure he's long gone, he looked old in the 70's. Still have the book some where.

I have a 3 ton open drive water cooled condensing unit that was on a walk in cooler, thought about using it for something, driven of the 6/1 Listeroid I have.  I use the compressor for a vacuum chamber to pull air out of silicone now, I can post a pic if anyone want's to see..

The old Delco R-12 wobble plate car compressors were awesome, they would work well with a Listeroid, fully loaded they would pull 6 to 7 hp. Had a mechanic friend that used one for a air compressor on his service truck, going to the job he would switch the electric clutch on to have air when he got to the service call.

Back in the 80's York had a unit that had a Briggs and Stratton natural gas engine driven, variable speed heat pump.  Super cheap to run. It was very expensive, never caught on. Don't remember if they had a LP unit.

Hope some of this will be food for thought.

Hope this thread goes awhile.

I have a 2008 Metro, It has a EPA sticker.
Also checked the CMD web site, no Listeroid generators listed  ???
