I understand that the older one gets,, the faster time moves and the less I seem to get done. But this year with farming was a constant battle.  So my time to invest in keeping up with the chat rooms was all but taken away..

I'm still crushing and still burning sf "blended fuel' with 100% good results. Working in the little dieselcraft centrifuge made the largest difference of any part of the system. All my friends who saw the improvement in the fuel also got a centrifuge going now and feel the same about it.. I'm seeing now the term "fuel polishing" is being used to title the system.

The centrifuge is doing something other than getting the mud out and  having to keep a case of fuel filters on the shelf.. The fuel is much better overall.

Now I can picture that running the fuel into a pump and then the centrifuge is chewing the fuel by mixing better,, and I feel the rapid expansion going from 80 psi back down to 0 psi 6 or 9 times is part of the clue.  I always see about a tea spoon worth of a very thick wax,, inside at clean out time.  The only thing I can say it must be the heavier part of the oil that the gas is not cutting that the centrifuge is catching and taking out. The amount varies between batches and the most I have ever seen is shy of a table spoon worth..

First of all, welcome to the family.. All of us twisted oil burner freaks..

First,, the 5kw head is a good match for the 6 horse.. No way can you out pull it and damage it with too much power output..

I would never want a diesel engine in my basement.  An outside power shack is the trick for safety and to control the mess, smell and noise.

I"m dealing with $0.17 KWH power here in NW Kansas due to the 25 + miles of power lines between farms.  Not cheap!   My 14/1 pulling a 7.5 Kwh ST head saves me over $200 a month in the summer while running my AC in my house. 

Read,, study,, and then make your own game plan.. Nothing done out of need is a waste of time but one has to watch the money.

I have a 28/2 pulling about 50% power output..  My IR readings in "F" are as stated.

Ex port.. governor side 620f
Ex port  tanks side 640f
water intake 135f
water out 200f
crankcase 150f 160f

This is after an 8 to 10 hour run..

No problem with engine oiling at slow speeds.. The pump works better at 100 rpms than 1000, from my flow tests..

International Harvester,, played with allot of engines with on and off cyl action.. Dropping a bank when not needed for power..  Cant say it worked real well.  Or that the engines lasted well.

As for a ultra light load on a 2 cyl.. one has to factor that at a point of very low power output,, the engine almost becomes a hot air engine.. Just enough fuel to expand the air but not really make allot of fire or waste heat.

I do know that an uneven load on the crank would show up an ugly head after time by just working 1 side.  Old John Deere tractors started out with even fire with there 2 cyl engines.  They kept breaking cranks.. Went to odd fire and the cranks stopped breaking.

I would love my 28/2 to be an even fire, but know the history too well to mess with it.

The number of parts and labor,, for a 3 hp are the same for a 8hp,, 12 hp.. So the money saved is not that much in the end..  I agree,, get one big enough to do some real work,, and make some real heat.  Your just spinning your wheels and money with a toy otherwise.

First,, welcome to this sick group of oil burners!

Well when one starts talking about oil,, its like talking about women.. They are all the same, but the outcome can be allot different!

I have switched over to the new Shell Rotella syn oil for winter use. Its rated at 5W 40..  The cost is only about a $1 more per QT,,, I feel I can safely extend my oil changes by 50% and offset the added costs.

I get a rag in the mail called Land Line. Its a trucker pubucation,, for owners/ operators of 18 wheel trucks.. They did a engine oil test over 100,000 miles and took lab samples on a weekly rate.. The new Rotella showed the least amount of engine ware, and the best control of acids and soot of all the other brands.

In testing my sunflower fuel, when I tried to run it too thick of mixture of raw oil I would see this every time that the oil level will gain in the crankcase.  Its the raw oil that did not get burned.. Not a good sign and a real good wake up call to make some adjustments real fast.. Even an oil change.. As with the raw oil in the crankcase, it also says,, there is going to be carbon deluxe and a good chance for sticking valves and piston rings real soon.

We are blessed with allot of oil field engines out here in west Kansas.  None that run well are going cheap.. ( $3000 to $10,000 ) $140 oil added to there value, and panic to get them in remote areas to power a pump.  Now that the price of oil is going down again,, one might start finding some bargains in a few years.

I agree,, women cant count, but can see different colors.. Painting them all the same works for me also..  I lost count how many "Lister" green engines I have now..
