General Discussion / Re: Lister "D" ID Plate ?
« on: March 31, 2011, 02:05:48 PM »
Hi rednib,  The serial number will be on a brass plate attached to the crankcase door. Failing that it will be stamped on the fly wheel crown .

Usually it is one six digit number.  Perhaps what you have read as D8 is   zero eight  08. Without looking up charts if that is the case your engine will date around 1945.

Hi komet,  No special tools are required but a set of whitworth spanners . Take time and patience when dealing with rusted or siezed parts,a good gas blowtorch to apply heat to stuck components and a decent releasing agent to soak parts will help too.

At the end of the day it is a Lister diesel engine built to be abused for years workwise and is built like a tank.

The manual will be a great help.

Hope this helps

Hi SteveA,  I was not inferring that the agent would abscond with the cash, but making the statement that trust has to come into the equation sometime.  Regards Bill.

I am adding my own 3 cents worth here only on my own opinion and having nothing to do with this venture what so ever.

It seems that faith and trust have to be here in this project somewhere between buyer and seller. Lets face it for the sums of money that are involved, is it worth being tagged as a thief and a liar for?

Who is to say the Escrew Agent will not obscond with the money too? etc, etc, etc.

What is a Hog Oiler?

General Discussion / Re: Help Needed for Bamfords Diesel info.
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:52:29 PM »
Hi, Here is the web site for Bamford engines......www.henrybamfordandsonsuttoxeterengland.co.uk

I am not familiar with Bamford diesels but have rebuilt a couple of petrol engines they are robust and well made.

You could also contact Peter Forbes who is a member of this forum and is a wealth of information on diesel engines in general.

Regards Bill.

Things I want to Buy / gib key cover.
« on: September 07, 2010, 01:09:41 PM »
Does anyone from the UK have a spare gib key cover?

I know they are available new but would prefer an old scruffy one to finish a project.

Regards Bill.

Is the "slobbering symptom" confined only to CSs?  I would be more inclined to "slobber" at your Ball Top.

General Discussion / Re: Lister CS 18/2 . . . serious help needed
« on: April 14, 2010, 12:57:57 PM »
Hi, I would also change the fluids and try her.
By fluids I mean engine oil, when you are there give the crankcase a good clean out and the filters.
No need to touch the diesel ignition system re pump or injector.

As previously requested any photos.I have never seen a CS in a canal boat.
