The price of Diesel fuel is not what bothers me. What does enrage me is the speed that the price increases are being shoved up our back sides. I thought only the US was getting hammered on the fuel issue but the Canadians are getting screwed to. Unlike the gas crisis of the seventies I see no reduction of prices in our future. The only positive thing I do see is just maybe the Auto/Energy/industry will finally get off their collective asses and bring out some truly fuel efficient engines. I think the love affair between the Oil companies and the Auto makers is over.

I showed this video in a meeting filled with upper management type people. A few caught on but after the video finished one of the Managers asked if this would be a good upgrade to offer with our switchgear installations. The room got really quiet. Then people were rolling on the floor laughing. To this day that manager still hates me.

As long as you're not using a car radiator to discharge this heat into the garage we should be ok.
I actually nearly have everything for my setup, I was going to use a Mother Earth- patterned waste oil burner to heat a coiled tube, but this would be easier.
I'm going to use an oil cooler from a 985 Cat so I should be safe.
I ordered a second one and it should be here on Monday. I didn't need two but I wanted an extra carb and at $25.00 for another new heater it's a steal! I have been heating my garage this winter running my Changfa 195 and have used over 300 gallons of WMO and Diesel. That's just crazy. We have an all electric house and the wife won't have any wood stoves! She says they make to much dust. So I'm going with the outside boiler and it will be quiet too. The only concern I have is being able to throttle the temperature and not make steam. I have a 55 gallon electric water heater for a storage/surge tank and that will be outside the garage with the oil heater in its own little building. I intend to run this 24/7 during the winter months and being separate from the house will let me sleep a little better without having to worry about it. Our electric for heating during the winter averages about $300.00 a month so lowering that will be a good thing.

Welcome to the land of Changfa. I spent a few years down in Arizona with the USAF at Gila Bend, Tucson and Phoenix. I took a one year break from the Air Force back in 75-76 and worked for Anamax Copper Mine as a top watch in the power plant. I do love the desert down there. Some day I may actually retire and I'll head south again. I'll bring my Changfa with me but I'll be investing in some serious solar cells. Your going to enjoy it here. This has to be the largest group of power generation people on the planet and they know their stuff. This is old school with a heavy helping of high tech in all the right places. I learn something new here everyday.

Inline six cylinder. I want to know why they stop making them. The Chevy, Ford, Chrysler and AMC sixes had to be the best motors ever built. I own two Jeep Cherokee's and both have the 4.0 inline six. If given the choice between a new titanium 20,000 rpm 800hp engine that only weighs 100 lbs and a slow speed low hp cast iron slant six with a one barrel carb the choice is easy. I'll take the cast iron.

Wow, now that is a generator. I would make sure your battery cables are at least 4/0 to handle the amperage draw to spin up that huge rotor. You might as well throw in a 4d or 8d battery while your at it. Would love to find one like that. Can't wait to see the finished plant.

Another Mighty Changfa lives. Listers, be afraid, be very afraid. Our numbers increase daily and there are many more on the way. We have our industrial strength ear plugs and we know how to use them.

« on: February 11, 2008, 05:24:50 AM »I was servicing a truck and pulled the driveshaft to replace a u-joint. Noticed the front joint was out of phase with the rear. When I replaced the joint, I clocked the slip yoke back into phase with the rear joint.
Took the truck out for the test drive and the thing liked to shake the crap out of me. After a couple of hours of scratching my head and a call to the driver who said it hadn't shook before....I pulled the driveshaft back out, put it back out of phase and you guessed it. No more shake.

I may have sold a vehicle years ago because I couldn't get it to stop vibrating after I changed the u joints!

I fired mine up today for the first time. It ran for 4 hours on WMO. Once it gets hot there is very little smoke. The real surprise came when I shut it off and let it cool down. I expected to see a lot of heavy buildup from the WMO but the inside is clean. The bottom of the combustion chamber has a nice black coating from the oil as it burnt itself out. Now comes the fun part, a coil inside to heat water for a heating radiator in the garage. This will become an outside zero pressure boiler used to heat my garage. Hopefully I'll finish it before summer.

An update on my starter is in order. I received the first starter I ordered from Hardy Diesel. Wrong one. This one is top of engine mount and I need the one that goes on the end. Took measurements and sent photos to Hardy. No problem they said, we know which one you need. Starter # 2 arrives, Big starter! 4kw, 30lbs. Big enough to crank a 3406. Not for a 195 for sure. More phone calls, their working on it. Waiting for UPS to pickup the two wrong starters. Hardy is footing the return bill. Opened my Master Card bill today and discovered that Carroll Stream billed me $94.00 for a starter they never sent me! 
I had tried to order one from them but they never could get it shipped out. They kept coming up with all kinds of excuses. I finally sent them an E-Mail and phoned them to cancel the order. I never even had a tracking # from them. Looks like I'll be talking to them on Monday. My original starter? It has not failed to start since I ordered the first starter from Hardy. I have a friend in Vietnam that owns a large factory. I wonder what the import fee would be on a crate load of starters? Actually I wonder just how cheap a Changfa 195 is in Saigon. I need to find out if he ships his products to the US. Might be a way to save on some shipping costs.

I know this is not a scientific test but I use a radiator on my Changfa 195. The system is not pressurized and I carry some heavy loads so I lose about 1 pint of liquid through evaporation every 8 hours. I run a 50-50 antifreeze mixture and replace the boiled off coolant with pure water. The mixture has remained at -45 degrees protection level for the past 150 hrs. I am very sure only the water is evaporating from the coolant on my system. I do not run a water pump so the coolant boils heavily on high loads.
