Generators / Re: Capacitor
« on: July 19, 2008, 02:17:10 PM »
I want to thank every one for their answers, you will only get this kind of information from the liberary of life. Thanks for pointing out to be very carefull around a capacitor. I have install mine  where it is out of the way but I can still drain the power off. On another site a guy was talking about using his meter to discharge a cap  in a camera., he put his meter on 50 volts DC and then touched the leads to the  + and - and it would drain it.
Thanks to all.

Generators / Capacitor

I just received the capacitor that I order to try to bring my voltage up in my ST 10 head. Since I am not real good around things that are electric, just in case I hook something up wrong how would I discharge the capacitor for safety sake.?

Here is what George wrote me,
It takes just a small amount of capacitance on the AC side of the rectifier to boost the voltage. Start with 1 or 2 uF and go up slowly. Make sure you're using motor "run" caps on AC. I think I settle on 1.5 uF on my ST10. Gives me 129v at 62 Hz (perfectamundo!)
Joel from ( powersoulutions)

To boost voltage, the cap goes across the harmonic winding - in
parallel.  Just connect the cap to the AC
terminals on the rectifier. Start small, couple of uF at most.
The parts guy just wanted to know what voltage I wanted and I did not know, thanks to every one for their answers
As soon as I can get back to the shop to do some work I will put the cap in.

Generators / 10K ST generator head
« on: July 01, 2008, 01:39:33 PM »
I have a question that I hope someone will help me out.. I have a 10 K ST generator head that I am only getting 109 volts at 60 hz if I go to 118 volts then the hz goes to 64 hz. It is connect to a Changa 1115  and running at 1800 rpm. I contacted George at utterpower and he said to put in a motor run capacitor, 1.5 uf, but when I went to get one, the parts guy  wanted to know what voltage?? I email George back but he has not answer yet . I am running the head 240/120 volts  so what do I buy?  Thank you for any help.

General Discussion / Re: 60 gallon tank for batch solar water heater
« on: June 26, 2008, 06:43:58 PM »
Hi guys,
I just what to add my two cents worth, I live in centeral Fl. ( Saint Petersburg ) and I use the sun to heat my water, use my electric water heating tank ( 50 ) gal. as a storage tank, in case the sun doesn't shine all I have to do is hit the switch and the electric heats the water. There is a company called Solar Deveiopment in south Florida that sell solar hot water heaters for 1100.00 I bought mine in 1993 for 700.00 and still works like new.  In the 90's ( Florida ) Gov. Childs had a contest for the cheapest and easy way to get hot water and this company won. I met the owner  and he was in his 60's at least and that was in 93, I think his son or maybe grandson owns the place now.The web site is www.solardev.com It has save me a lot of money over the years. I do not have any money or any ties to this company.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Re: Kubota Engines Manufactured by Changfa?

Hey Guys
This is my first post, have been here for awhile, with so much information here it is hard just trying to take everything in. I am running a Changfa 1115 with a 10 K  head, mine  does not move at all . I have it on  4 inch channel welded  together. Since I want to be able to move it around the shop, ( till my gen. room is done )  I put in on wheels  I got from Harbor Freight, wheels  where real cheap about 2.99 each. When I first started it up I thought it would walk around but it didn't.
