Everything but the crankcase for a PHW1 ?

Petteroids / Re: Peter ph1 engine oil
« on: December 22, 2022, 04:28:35 PM »
Just about anything on the shelf today will be superior to the best oil available when the engine was designed .
Some sort of low ash oil rated SF-2 for two stroke Detroit diesels is a safe choice . SAE 30 would do .

3
A cold engine will condense fuel on the cylinder walls and head instead of burning it all . Wastes fuel . Worse yet it washes lube oil off the cylinder walls and increases wear .
    Coolant should be 195F-210F with a 50/50 mix .
A closed loop cooling system reduces coolant system corrosion and deposits. It took many hours after soaking in muratic acid to find bare metal inside the head of my PHW1 .

A  PJW1 would also be good .

wanted , most or all of a PW1 Petter or Petteroid .  I have a PH1 project torn apart but my kid moved stuff around to work on his car . Now I can only find about 2/3 of the parts .

How about using a circuit breaker ?

Generators / Re: Glyptal vs. Generic?

Old thread but has anyone been using Glyptal, POR-15 or any other miracle paints recently ?
In addition to painting the crankcase of my PH1 Kryslar clone . The underside
Of the mower desks have lost all paint and are now a rusty surface that grass clippings adhere to.  Glyptal lists some HD epoxy paint ? Wonder if it may do the trick with a touch up now and again when the kids try to mow stones .

Oily smoke and soot deposits are products of incomplete combustion.  Engine coolant temp should be 195-210F. straight 40 weight oil is better than 15W-40.  Air filter ? Too small or dirty ? Injection event too late ?

Petteroids / Re: PETTER PH2 engine - oil not reaching the tappets
« on: May 01, 2019, 05:05:03 AM »
Forgive me for the amature question, I have only had the block, head and injection pump off the engine .
Is the image of # 1 an oil pressure relief valve . #2 an oil pump that pushes oil with the cam and the spring ensures the pump plunger to follow the lobe #3 an oil pump that functions similr to the low pressure fuel pump . The lobe pushes the plunger and spring away, with the spring pushing the plunger and this the oil . With a max oil pressure limited by the spring pressure .

As previously stated by numerous others, probably too right on the ring gap.

Everything else / Re: Solar water heaters.
« on: April 08, 2019, 06:47:20 PM »
Here in the land of ice and snow . We are getting away from plate collectors and pumping water . Instead PV panels are used to power resistance heaters in an “ordinary” electric water heater .
No risk of freezing , less to leak, no pumping and higher water temperatures.

Still applies in most of the world today and used to be common in the west. Elderly Mom and Dad moved in with the first born son until the end of their days.

General Discussion / Re: Smoke billowing out of intake.
« on: March 24, 2019, 03:30:13 AM »
Not the first diesel that ran backwards after being almost stalled.
Did it myself the first time down the pulling track with a John Deere two cylinder diesel 720 in 3rd gear instead of in 2nd . She was lugging down and I was 100 milli seconds too slow pulling the clutch. She kicked over and ran backwards blowing smoke and the oil bath air cleaner oil out the intake stack. Oil all over the hood and myself.
Fortunately the V4 gas starting engine was in good tune and fired up or that would have added to the embarrassment . Rolled it over 7 to 8 revolutions without compression before the oil pump re-primed and the pressure gauge began reading. Added compression and fuel and she barked to life.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Largest displacement listeroid single ?

If you extrapolate via displacement  . A naturally aspirated diesel makes 1/4HP per cubic inch at 1800rpm.

18.4Kw hr if used 0-100% on the Volt .  The Bolt has a serious sized battery pack with 60Kw hr . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Volt
