Everything else / Re: Sound insulation
« on: August 05, 2008, 07:53:44 PM »
 Jens,

There will, no doubt, be a lot of ideas out there. One thing I would keep in the back
of my mind is that over time foams and other items could saturate with oil. I know of a
spray on foam building insulation that saturated with paint fumes over time and burned a steel
building down. I was thinking of the rug samples that you can get cheep or free, let them hang
free, spaced off the wall, so as not to transmit vibrations. I dont know what to use to have
a vapor barrier over them. Good luck in your project.

 Jens,
What is your construction plan? What materials were you planning to use?
Not sure what "professional materials" means

I believe its:
manufactoring # / size- # of cylinders / a number that you add 50 to (based on serial number)
If not I might get whipped with a light saber

Listeroid Engines / Re: Placement of Crankshaft Timing Marks
« on: November 16, 2007, 06:27:49 PM »

Morgan,

I'm doing this from memory. I pressed on a timing gear and was not sure of the placement
of the gear (rotationally as there was no key). I believe that there was a  valley between the gears (teeth) with the crank supported at each on rollers and the throw hanging down. I can verify this when I get home as I have a new crank shaft there. I could also check for timing marks then. I bring this up because if there is not a key on yours, the timing marks would be irrelavent if the gear is not pressed on correctly.

Guy,

Could you share what it is that you have to retain the gib key?
Does the key work loose?
Thanks for any info.

Some people have posted complaints about not getting help on this forum.
I think that they are just not "appliance heads"
Perhaps they should go elsewhere.

Well if you do watch some of these, you will see lots of accidents waiting to happen.
I thought sure that the crank starter was going into the flywheel and that the guy would get eaten
up by the belt for the saw. Sometimes we can only see these things for others. Perhaps we should look around at our own installations for problematic conditions that we just get used to seeing. My 2 cents worth.

Jack,

Your post makes me remember the Jack Nicholson flick where he is at a remote hotel in the winter,
chopping thru a door, pokes his head in and says "HERE'S JOHNNY"
Perhaps its time to drive into town and visit with people. lol
