Generators / washers missing!
« on: July 12, 2020, 10:53:50 AM »
Does anyone know why there arn't any washers on the eight bolts that keep the coils into the  main case of a brush 8.25kva generater?
I stripped out the coils to clean the surface rust from the inside of the case, as I didn't want any flaking off once the generator warms up causing problems in the windings and noticed that none of the bolts have washers on them. Just wondering if there's a specific reason for this or has it been an omission from the build. Your thoughts would be welcome
many thanks

Generators / SR3 Brush 8.25KVA genset
« on: July 06, 2020, 08:09:43 PM »
Hi everyone, many thanks for reading my post, I'm almost complete on the rebuild of the SR3 part of my genset, so began the tear down on the generator which is a Brush 8.25KVA single phase 240V 40amp set. I would also like to say at this point I have a long history in engineering(mechanicle and production) but absolutley no experience in electrical and even less in generators.
I would like to upgrade some of the internals from the old bridge recifyer to solid state, would a 150A 1600V recifyer do the job (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MDQ150A-150A-1600V-Full-Wave-Diode-Module-Single-Phase-Rectifier-HA/373081571613)
also could someone kindly explain what the box on the top of the genset is for and what would be the best way forward to change this for a box with a couple of 240V 16A sockets and breakers(if that can be done).
I've added a picture of the box and it's internals, hopefully this will help
Many thanks in advance]

Generators / SR3 Bryce VR99 injectors
« on: July 03, 2020, 11:07:34 AM »
Hi everyone, hope all is safe and well,
I've been progressing with the SR3 rebuild, got to putting the injectors back in yesterday noticing a lack of copper washers at the tips to seal them to the cylinder heads, I do remember that when I took it apart back in January none of the injectors had copper washers on them. I've also checked down in the heads just incase they where left behind. The injectors are Bryce VR99 274 NSDLBO 86D 0424, should they have copper washers?
could someone please tell me how to post images, as I've tried to join copermine and just keep getting invalid global password, is there a required format for special charaters etc,
many thanks
Barry

couldn't wait till Thursday so went strait into the work shop and follwed your advice, as well as the advice in the ST manual, replaced the retaining screw, turned it out two turns, placed the bent puller, tightened, and whacked it three time with a piece of hard wood 100x100x500mm, came strait off
now  i can relax tomorrow and have a great day with the grand kids,
many thanks
Have a wonderfull Christmas everyone]

Generators / SR3 Strip down
« on: December 22, 2019, 04:21:39 PM »
Hi Everyone,
wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I've recently purchased  SR3 Gen set that the previous owner was going to scrap. It was in working order but as I wanted to refurb it I began to strip it down, I'm now trying to remove the flywheel which is well stuck and probably never benn removed since new. I've removed the large retaining bolt and fashioned a puller to use the existing flexible coupling mounting holes in the flywheel, nothing moved exept the puller bent.
My question is should it be that tight, have i missed something that I should have removed and haven't and any idea's how to remove the flywheel
thanks in advance

Engines / Re: Flywheel Nut

I've measured it at 2" and 7/32, i'm finding it hard to get an imperial socket that big so i've ordered a 56mm six point draper impact socket for £14 from Amazon.
