Other Slow Speed Diesels / Re: Deutz single-cylinder diesel

I would lean more towards the Yanmar/Changfa type 4-10hp versions (around 100 lbs with internal charging system).

I guess I'd prefer a Yanmar or clone as well, but it seems they're not easy to find anymore.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Deutz single-cylinder diesel

Hi all,

This isn't really a slow-speed diesel, but this seems like the most appropriate forum I can find for this topic.  I've run across a Deutz F1L-208D single-cylinder diesel for sale.  It's NOS military surplus.  Apparently the US military has lots and lots of these.  I've read that they were/are used to run small compressors and heat small buildings (???).  Looks like they were also marketed as inboard motors for small sailboats.  From what I can tell, it looks very similar to the Yanmar-type single cylinder engines.

I found some specs here:  http://website.lineone.net/~trucks.morley/Products/Deutz/fl208.htm

Wondering if anyone has experience with this particular engine.  I'm considering it for a diesel motorcycle conversion.
