it seems like a runaway diesel with the switch in the run position.

The link I added is to a pdf manual you can read the exact method to slow the engine. Where are you based? In America diesel g man of this site would have a lot of spares in the UK they are readily available and you can buy parts by post from anywhere in the world
Im in America , the manual is for the LT series, mine is an SL1  are they the same?

so the only way to slow it down is to change the weights and springs? Are those parts available   ???
If i hold the run switch towards stop, the engine runs slower i put a penny in  between the catch and it runs slow is that harming the engine?

Hi i am new to these engines, I have a Lister SL1 made in 1961. Im trying to get it to slow down the RPM because when it starts it goes full throttle When the switch is in the run position ,unless i hold the switch manually towards the stop position. i tried adjusting the threaded speed control protruding from the case i turned it clockwise but it did nothing.  on the stamp it says 1800 RPM but when its running it seems to be running balls to the wall. I dont realy plan on using it for anything other than display so i want it to run very slow. is that possible ?  thanks in advance[img]
