I had good progress with a gentleman called Matt from Kansas City, and talked with a shipping company here that could transport from Leixoes (Porto) to Kansas City for 550$.

After that, he didn't reply to me anymore don't know why, because it's a fair value and he agreed on it...

Since then, got an offer of 1500$ from New Zealand but he quit after getting to know that the shipping price would be higher than to Kansas, so 500$.

I also got another contact from a guy who is interested on buying an original Lister like mine, but says that it's somehow illegal to import it to the USA and that the customs would seize it, anybody can confirm this info? I'll probably open a new topic on other section about this...

It is Not illegal to import antique engines into the USA. That doesn't guarantee that it won't become a PITA to get it done. If it is dismantled or incomplete and just called parts, then your paperwork becomes pretty easy. Mention "Enigine" and certain triggers will be tripped as far as legality is concerned. None the less, once you can meet the burden of proof that your unit was manufactured before the pertinent EPA regulation came into force, you will be able to get past the bureaucrats and their gatekeepers.

Thanks dieselgman.

I'll look into it.
Actually, the engine is missing the cooling tank. This way should make it easier to say it is parts instead of full engine...

Happy New Year

With everyone round the $1500 mark, would prove the initial $5000 ask was ridiculous. Maybe you should have taken the $1500 offer you knocked back.

How come all the offers are from OS, is there no one in your own country interested in these things or have you over priced it for the local market?

Here in Portugal people don't have the interest nor the money to buy an engine like this.
This is an engine from before the World War II, and is still functional, it has a lot of antique value.

I've already stated in this topic that the $5000 price tag was like a roof, and to test the market. Don't need to keep saying it was a ridiculous value to ask. I'm not a Lister nor an engine enthusiast, since listing it I learned quite a bit.

Hey guys!!!

Haha please didn't intend to make anyone mad with this  ;D
That was quite a write-up, will try to read all that rant!

As I told earlier I'm mediating this for a close friend, and he just told me some days ago that the Cooling Tank got sold during the Summer.

The Lister engine model I'm selling, 5-1, is the Tank cooled model, not the Radiator cooled model. The tank is much bigger than the radiator.
It might change things for someone interested, but for others might not.

I'm dealing now with an interested buyer from Kansas, Missouri, which was only interested in the engine + Fuel Tank from the beginning, as to him the cooling tank would take much space and shipping cost would be too expensive.

The value we're dealing is over $2000.
I think I'll open a topic elsewhere asking if someone has any recommendation on a international shipping company, that would pickup in Portugal.

We're we have DHL, TNT and the rest are local companies I think...

Have a great weekend everyone, with, or without, rants  8)

Meanwhile, I've received another 1500$ offer on my eBay listing.

So I take it you are going to knock that back as well?

I'm talking with the interested person, which is from Switzerland.
The offer is 1500$ plus the shipping price paid by the buyer.

I've also got a lower offer of $1000 from Dominican Republic

I love to have it   but the only thing is I have a bank check for more than the amount, so id need a cash refund for the balance......  ;D

I've sent you a PM. Thanks for you interest.
Meanwhile, I've received another 1500$ offer on my eBay listing.

Hi amsimoes,

I see better deals float by on eBay - UK almost every week.  Long onto eBay - UK and save a search querie "Lister Diesel" to your account.  It won't be long.

Casey

Hello Casey,

I've just searched for that, and most listings are for Lister Generators and Lister Marine with turbo, much more recent engines than what I'm selling.

I'm selling a 100% Working engine that dates from before the World War 2...
I think that does hold much more collectible value than a more powerful recent Lister unit.

the latest offer I got was $1500 plus shipping, in order to avoid confusion.

How much are you hoping to get? $1500 is a good offer. There are SOM setups(heavy flywheel CS with generator) on Ebay for £700-800 obo and spoked flywheel versions like what you have listed for less than that.

But are those original Lister CS engines which date of 1939, and still working?
Couldn't find those listings you mention, would you put them here or send me?

Thanks for you reply

I didn't take it as rude!

One of the reasons I didn't want to Auction it is because I don't have that experience with that selling type on eBay, and thought Buy Now was simpler on the beginning, to get to know the market and the offers I'd got.

I'm actually mediating this for a friend.
The engine has emotional value for him and he'd only sell it for a good amount of money.

That price tag was to serve as a "roof", and I'll actually remove it from the post and state the latest offer I got was $1500 plus shipping, in order to avoid confusion.

And since shipping will depend on the buyer's location, I think it's better listed as a Buy Now rather than an Auction, at eBay.

$5000 for an engine on it's own?

Wow, they must be a REALLY hard thing to come by in Portugal with every 2nd person there trying to buy one.

Yes, our border is full of Lister smugglers! 8)

I didn't want to list it as a Auction on eBay and my intention was to see how much interest / offers it can gather, as I didn't have experience on this selling market.

The $5000 price tag on eBay for the Buy Now is to be able to receive offers below that value, this is, without risking some one buying it at once if I had a cheaper price tag.

It's the second month the engine is listed on eBay, the 1st month received 800+ views, 3 contacts and 1 offer.

This only offer I got was $1500 for the Engine, without the fuel tank, plus the shipping price to be defined, paid by the buyer as well.

Cheers

Good evening everyone!

I'm selling an original Lister CS Stationary Engine, bought in 1939 and since then until '00 was used to power a Olive Press.
The engine isn't attached to the press anymore, but it's still working 100%.

The diesel and cooling tanks as well as any other parts, are included.
The engine and all parts are located in Portugal.

I have an album of pictures I took recently and a video of the engine starting and working as well.

The images are quite large, so I leave the album link here: Engine Photos

The video is on YouTube: Engine Video (not very good light)

I have a listing on eBay, with a Buy Now price fixed at $5000 - used as a "roof" - and a symbolic shipping price of 1$ - this price will be dealt depending on the buyer's location.

I'm open to any offer.
The only real offer I've got so far was $1500 + shipping price to a freight terminal of Kansas City.

The shipping price will be dealt depending on the buyer's location.

Yours sincerely,
António
