Listeroid Engines / Re: 650 rpm vs 1000 rpm

If I were to do it over i would go with 2 10-1's coupled together 360 deg. out from one another running at 700-750 or so. Wouldnt be to tough to come up with a industrial coulpling that would handle the torque. That would give you huge rotating mass. even power strokes 14-15 hrs maybe more. not to mention something new to talk about on here again.  Derik

as someone who has been turning an inductive motor pushing power up the pole for over 2 years on used motor oil it aint worth it unless its a hobby. i have a 10-1 and finally setteled around 700 rpm pushing a 5 hrs. single phase motor.   its just not a profitable deal even if you have all the oil you want  despit4e what every one says the listers dont run well on used oil or wvo. and there is just no hard and fast info on setting up one to run defferent fuels.  to say it another way ive worked my ass off a couple months and had a 0 balance. and it would have been 160 or so. but we have rather cheep electric here in oregon. course it took about 18 months to admit the whole affair to myself.   anyway good luck   Derik

you might be better off buying a portable gen. you need some pretty good knowledge in mechanicss alot of time and wide range of tools and equipment to build a listeroid genset.

General Discussion / Re: propane and H2O + Lister type

hello   im burning used motor oil and tranny fluid   im not looking for more power just to help keep the motor cleaner and running smooth. im putting a very small amount in now all the time  maybe close to what a propane fridge uses in an rv i dont know it that is to little to do anything or not. my oil is free so it doesnt make sence to worry about getting better economy   just to keep the carbon down.   so does it do better to give a very small amount all the time or a larger amount for a couple hours a once or twice aweek   also im runnning 24-7

fuddyduddy   so how much propane are you running to keep from carboning up  do you run it all the time or just part time. i have a argon flow meter so i can regulate very well also i have a constant load on genny.   thanks.   derik

no i dont think youll ever get it completly stable   i just try to take an average. it doesnt take much running 24-7.

you need to turn the motor over 1800 to generate power with it. i have the same set up and i run it up to 26 amps its about all the 6-1 will handle with out smoking. i have a 10-1 turning 500 rpm so about the same as a 6-1. motor runs quite hot but i was assured by the motor rebuild house that they run very hot and is normal. good luck  oh also use the waste heat for something. i just put the hottub in the hydronics side nice to get free heat for it.

i think youl run into power pulse problems with that set up. i wouldnt have a spring in the belt pulley system. id use a solid adjuster with no give.

guy all i used to isolate my frame was a rubber mat cut into 3" squares 1/2 thick stacked up 3 high. on each courner. works great.

guy if you mount it on a nice ridged frame and set it on rubber isolaters you wont feel it 5 feet away let alone 200 mine is quiet enough you cant here it in my own house right next to the garage. and it shares the same slab. just takes time to get it all set up to do what you need.

guy the probblem with to long of frame is the belt will really snap hard from power stroke.   and the torque from the power stroke is pretty impressive to say the least it will make the whole skid jump when your under heavy load i have bolts to hold it down the bolts are isolated also rubber washers. mine runs just under 500 so it might be more noticeable i know its from the power stroke cause it stops as soon as i cut the rack.

so you havent had or worked a listeroid but you can get on your high horse and say we're wrong and dont know what we're doing even though we are running them all day everyday day after day. yes we have break downs some are worse then others. when you get your engine and you run oh say 2000 hours and you know more real time data people might start listening

so are you saying you still get a thump over the whole property even though you mounted the engine to the block.
