Listeroid Engines / Re: Injection pump question ???
« on: May 24, 2011, 12:52:31 PM »
If your idler gear is off a tooth would it cause this? I have no idea how to check this on a 24/2 if the gears aren't already marked and marked properly. On a 6/1 it's easy.

Amarbir: His injector pump timing (spill timing or injection timing) is so far advanced (ahead) the plunger or piston on the injector pump is hitting the valve in the pump. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Geno

Ive refurbished several of the cast iron rads. All of them had lots of scale/rust buildup in them. If you fill them with hot water and radiator cleaner you can get a lot of crud out. If you build a right angle tip for a pressure washer you can get up inside the sections. Be warned though, a right angle tip can be dangerous to use and will jump out of your hands easily.

Thanks, Geno

Ive been using this cast iron rad for a few years. It works very well and a fan is needed often. I harvest coolant and exhaust heat. When there is too much heat I can direct the coolant to domestic hot water as well. My 6/1 runs at about 2500 watts normally.

This bowl is one of the later, one piece designs without the keyless bushing mod. It can be sent to Simple Centrifuge to be upgraded. You can get some runout with this design and fiddling is sometimes needed to get it perfectly smooth. This design works well. Ive never changed the filter on the Listeroid and Ive gotten 5k miles on the Benz filter. I dont get my oil above 110f before centrifuging. More heat would improve performance. Im going to upgrade to the newest rotor design and will not need this one. Ive seen them as low as $450.00 on the SC website but I paid a bit more. If you haven't seen one in person having it professionally machined from billet and balanced makes for a very nice piece.

Bowl only.

Thanks, Geno

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Another Rescue Engine

Of course, the pump. I forgot about that.
Thanks for checking on the felt rings. They might be available from Stationary Engine Parts but by the time I got them to the US it would be a lot of $ for a few of material.

Thanks, Geno

Great job Bob. The engine sounds real nice.

I have an original 6/1 Ill get around to restoring one of these days. Did you have to replace the felt seals in the main bearing housing? If so where did you source them? I need some.

On my engine there are also pre-lube plugs in the main bearing housings. Does your engine not have them? I noticed they were not part of your pre-lube routine. Maybe theyre just an inspection plug put on some engines.

Here ya go. 115 pages which at a glance appear to be 1/2 easy reading and 1/2 way over my head.

This thread has got me thinking about getting my Best 5.3KVA UPS on line. It has a 208 volt input and I bought a 240/208 transformer but was never able to make the UPS come on line with it. Best used a ferroresonant transformer on this UPS which is supposed to put out a perfect sinewave with constant voltage and frequency.

Everything else / Re: Heat Exchanger

Several of us use a shell and tube for an exhaust heat ex. Ours have removable end caps for easy access to the tubes. A power washer cleans them pretty easily and the only build up I've seen is soot. I could probably go 500 hrs between cleanings but mine is quite large. They make a lot of condensate which you don't want getting back to the engine. If I didn't have one I'd wait for Bobs plans.

Some pics about 3/4 down the page. http://genedevera.com/listeroid/

Listeroid Engines / Re: Murph's 6/1 Listeroid Gen Set

I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet but if the engine mounting block is tied into the slab it might transmit a lot more vibration through the ground. That might not matter if the engine is far enough from the house though. My engine mounting block goes 18” into the ground and I can feel it in my basement walls and will sometimes get dishes rattling in the cabinets 75' away. My engine is relatively smooth too. It’s that power pulse that does it.

I bought a complete air filter and fuel tank from them for a Kama 4hp Yanmar clone. They were easy to do business with and the parts fit well. I haven't run the engine yet but I've looked it over pretty well and the fit and finish is excellent. I don't know what brand engine they sell.

Listeroid Engines / Re: 20/2 valve specs ?
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:22:41 AM »
With the decomp lever engaged and piston at tdc push down on the rocker above the exhaust valve. There should always be some movement before the valve hits the piston.

At the end of the exhaust stroke where the intake valve begins to open is where my intake valve comes closest to the piston. Roll the engine through while pushing down on the valve. Make sure there is always some clearance.

My valve lash get bigger as the engine warms up. The cylinder gets hot and the push rods do not.

Thanks, Geno
