The owner has changed his advert to a 3/1 instead of a 5/1, so it was a genuine mistake.

This does seem to be a nice engine, runs evenly, no knocks, show winner last three years, comes on it's own trailer, £400 The seller is a genuine bloke he is in Stranraer, Scotland.  Advert on the Pre-loved website.

Thanks.
We have determined that it was a 3/1 by the feature you mention.

Hi Compig, are you saying you received the pics of the head from the seller and it has turned out to be a 3/1........... :-\

Thanks Scott, I found the one you mention on E-bay tonight and used his genuine spec number as an example but the one given by the owner of the one I hope to buy is 208-10 which does not make any sense to me............

I am looking for one that is a runner and good condition.

Good man, he is going to send you pics Compig.  SPEC number was 208-10 which didn't help anyway..

6
Great I'll see if he will answer and send pics onto your phone...

I don't think he will go for taking the head off, I think I have lost him already..........I am going to make one last call armed with what is the spec number.  But I am desperatley digging in other forums, e-mailing club members etc etc......to find out the sec info meanings....

Thanks Compig

Oh dear keep coming up against dead ends  :'(  The only thing left is the SPEC number.  The one on Ebay starts with 5/1 if only someone with a 3/1 could tell me if their spec number starts with a 3/1 that would resolve all this.

I don't suppose your 6/1 has the old brass palte and starts with 6/1 on a spec number...

Has anyone got a 3/1 CS model.  Does it say 3/1 something on the spec number - thanks

Listeroid Engines / Spec Number!

What does the spec number 5/1/21 mean on a Lister 5/1.  This one is definitley a Lister  ;)  The casting number is also 5-1-82 does the 5-1 part relate to it being a 5/1 Lister.

Thanks Chris

This is the problem, you can see how one extra mark can confuse a 3 with a 5.  Can anyone look at their 3/1 and tell me if their 3 looks looks like the first or second 3.  If it's a 3 like the first one e.g. like this  3  then I am safe but if it like the second one in the picture then you can see how the confusion can arise.

Thanks for the reply M61hops.

Thanks Gary, I think the seller has had enough for a while which is understandeable.  I don't think I could push him to take the rocker cover off.  I am off to the Grand Prix tomorrow so will try calling him one more time tonight.  Thanks for doing the extra digging.

Well we are not getting very far.  RPM little help as they are both the same @ 600.  Cannot get a closer picture downloaded!  What is the spec number?  Would that tell me what model it is.........I am losing this one, a 700 mile round trip trip is too far to discover it is a  3/1  I have heard it runnig over the phone and it does sound very nice, no nasty knocks, even beat etc but a no no if it is a 3/1.  :(

Perhaps it says Spec not Speed, the photo cuts it off.  I have already asked for the other figures so hopefully I can get this resolved.  Will let you know outcome ASAP hopefully.

Thats not good news if their is nothing on the plate to distinguish either model.  Sadly, looking at the picture I don't think there is any doubt it is a 3 not a 5 but will investigate further.

Did you get my pm re the SOM and apologies about the phone cutting out last night.
