Ratman - mine isn't much different - both engines were missing the valve covers :o Got some off ebay though - indian copies but fine for what I want.

;D Had a good day today - 3 -4 hours to myself, inspired by a telephone conversation with a fellow cs owner on the other end / side of the country yesterday & needing my trailer emptied lol...

Got the siezed engines cylinder bore off with a few knocks with a small sledge hammer, and a crow bar.  Rings a mess, and bottom end was siezed.  Managed to get all the sludge & water out of the sump. A few hours with some penetrating oil & parifin some rocking back & forth with a big bit of timber as a lever and things started to loosen  ;D

Now spins over nice, even the cam followers ar lifting and falling by themselves.  Bit of a tight spot on the big end so now that I can get to the castle nuts I'll pull that and have a look.  The bore polished up nice too, just to clean up the piiiston and see what the rings are like.

Covers are off the gib keys and the oil in place there, I'll oil them every night for the next week or two and see if they will shift to let me strip the main bearings.

I got the head off the 'good' engine too, nice and clean, no broken rings, but evididence of the valves striking the top of the piston, didn't check what the tappets were like before I started.  I'll get the oil drained off and check out the sump etc later in the week.

Need a replacement som flywheel / pulley as one has a crack in it  :-[.  Need a replacement injector assy as well, that wa missing, presumably how all the water got into the siezed engine in the first place  ::)

At least I can get them lifted off the trailer now.

I'll probably end up with both engines running again eventually.

Original Lister Cs Engines / I've finnaly got them home!

I went last week and collected the two 6/1 som's I'd bought off ebay just before christmas :) Intention is to us in my off grid cabin with wvo or waste oil of some sort - IO have 1000+ litres of old thermal oil already.

One is running ok, the other siezed. Both are missing the alternators and associated electrical gear but have the bases.

I've started to strip the siezed one for now, and am designing and fabricating mounts for my heavy duty 24-38 alternator set up from the e mod genny I had. I need to sort the fuel tank & cooling setup, eventually I'll add a couple of domestic rads in to the cabin to dump the heat.

I've the head off and diesel sitting in the bore to try and free the piston, it was full of water, the injector is missing :-( The bore is still nice polished chrome so maybe will still work.  It has / well both have frost damage.  The running machine has been welll repaired / welded, the broken one has a brass plate drilled and tapped into the block - haven't got it off yet.

I've tried a few of the dating sites - don't tell the mrs lol... but cant decipher the engine serial nos? Can somebody help?  5012515 & the slightly older one (has spoked flywheels rather than the heavier som ones) 496461R6.

Thanks, No doubt I'll be back with more more difficult questions later.

Rgds, Steve
