Listeroid Engines / decompression parts needed
« on: October 17, 2023, 12:25:32 AM »
So my decompression holder is not working, and yes I can get new ones but for the past 10 years I have just placed a wrench under the same place as the decompression holder.

Make a long story short the nut broke sending the nut off and the compression push rod off and me to my knees.

looks like I will need to get the part that goes into the motor as the nut is broken off half way in, seems there is a site selling them for 15 dollars, but I cannot seem to find the cap that the push rod sits on

Anyone know of a source?

Thanks Andrew in Ottawa

Other Fuels / USed Furnace Oil
« on: January 02, 2016, 09:54:06 PM »
I just converted from oil to propane, in my house and garage.

There was fuel in the bottom of the two tanks, and one was red tagged fro rust - it was only 15 years old but the insurnace and enviromental police have gone nuts...which caused me to switch

Question.

The oil that came out had a bit of crude and rust in it.   I have transfered it to a 45 Gallon white plastic chemical barrel, and I suspect that I have also some water in the mix.

The oil fills the 45 gallon barrel to 1/2 way.   So whats the best way to clean it up and store it?

Was goin to let it sit for the winter in my heated garage and let it settle then hand pump out the good stuff and run it through a filter or two or three.  then mix it with regular diesel to burn in my generator... I have about a weeks worth of reserve right now.

Any other suggestions or products you guys suggest?

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid Power - Twice in Nov
« on: December 07, 2014, 11:37:03 PM »
Well, its been a busy season for my Roid, twice I have had to start it because of Ontario Hydro one failing to provide power.

Both times she started first crank, ran for at least 6 hrs.    This was the best thing I ever got for the house, runs everything and my family life can go on as normal... this is supposed to be a brutal winter, so I am expecting to use it more than usual.

So how is everyone doing?  We had a power outage here in Ottawa for a few hours, and the old Lister started right up no issues.

This spring I am going to do a full service on her, change the antifreeze, change the oil

Wife is still happy that I bought the engine, and so is my new nieghbour who runs a few extension cords over to keep his fridge working and put a TV on... luckly he has a wood stove so no worries about the cold

Listeroid Engines / Roid Power - 1st Snowfall
« on: November 27, 2013, 06:44:03 PM »
Its Ottawa... must be winter... heavy first snow... power out... running on roid

Damn I love this old girl, she always fires up on first spin, always provides good economy, and flicker free lighting.

Our new neighbors love it too... extension cords to my garage are powering the essentials... so that is two homes enjoying roid power this morning

Its not a toy, nor a collectable... its an emergency tool

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid power during Storm-agedon
« on: December 22, 2012, 01:49:09 AM »
Well, power went out at 2 pm, not expected to be back on till 0600.  good ole Betsey woke up on the first spin and started to make power.

Have to follow my wife around and turn on lights, she thinks the generator would like a lighter load, I said no, she is working fine, nice and hot into the rad, nice and cool coming out.... and the Roid is heating the garage nicely.

Im the only house with lights on in the village, others iether have no genny or cant get it to start.

Lights are not flickering, LCD TV working fine, and of course the Internet is there

Will top up the fuel tonight and check her around 11... then set my alarm to check her again at 3... so far she has been running with no issues for 7 hrs

General Discussion / My latest garage toy
« on: February 06, 2011, 05:36:48 PM »
Ok, the Canadian gov't has a department of Public Works, and it has a group responsible for getting rid of surplus or warn out or seized items.  To date I have picked up some uninterpretable power supplies, a small Dewalt Air compressor, and my 93 Chev Truck (Indians smuggling in cigarettes)

This week I spotted a Swan Air Compressor, its a 5ho, dual cylinder, 60 gallon upright air compressor.  If you look at the pictures note that is is pained in OD Green, note the picture show how it is bolted to the skid.  Being that it has to be hard wired into an electrical panel it could not be tested so it was sold for parts.

I low balled the bid,, the unit new is worth over $1800 wholesale.  I figured I was too low, but hey you never know.

I won the bid!!!  I picked it up yesterday and as I suspected it is brand new, never been used ex base spare.  Its copper is all like new, no dust on it because it was still in its original packing crate.  I just need a belt and to  hook it up and I am ready to go... now I can get some nice air tools.

here is my new toy
