I just got back from a 2 week holiday in the UK.  One of the things we did in London was take a Narrowboat cruise up to Camden.  When the engine started I immediately heard something somewhat familiar.  I asked the captain "Is that a Lister?" and indeed it was.  He rattled off the model number and year of manufacture, so I said it sounds like it was one of the last few out of Dursley then and he said it was and he wishes he had another one.

If you're ever in the city of London, the company name is Jasons's cruises and it's quite a fun trip.

Always nice to hear a lister in the wild so to speak.

I was wondering if it would be possible to use fuel oil as a coolant.  I know the transformers on the poles outside use oil as a coolant.

What I was thinking would be that the fuel oil wouldn't freeze in the winter, wouldn't cause rust.  Would it thermosiphon as well as water?

Assuming you could rig up a low coolant level shutoff you could pre-heat your fuel and take it from the coolant loop and use it right as it comes off the hottest part of the engine.

Just a thought that popped into my head as I was mowing the yard today.
