Listeroid Engines / Looking for a Local member
« on: July 31, 2017, 07:48:30 PM »
Not sure where to post this but I'll try here. I am in the Houston, TX area and have a Listeroid 12/2 . It has sat for years and I'd like to get it up and running. I never cranked it from the factory because of sand issues. I had tried to get the flywheels off but never could get the gib key to come free. So after many years, I'm ready to tackle this project, but am wondering if anyone with a Listeroid tear down experience is in the area, that may be willing to supervise/lend a hand?

Listeroid Engines / Measuring Lash in the idler gear
« on: December 03, 2012, 02:57:57 PM »
To determine the amount of offset I will need in my idler bolt, what is the best way to measure the gear lash? Not being a machinist, my thought on a simple way to do it would be to use a piece of soft lead solder and roll it into the gears and then measure the thickness of the solder after it has been squeezed between the teeth of the gears. Would this work or am I way off base? If so how do you measure it?

Listeroid Engines / Offset idler bolts

I know from searching that XYZer used to make them, but stopped. I'm looking for a source for two of them. Does anyone have a lead on where they can be found?

Listeroid Engines / Engine tear down and setup
« on: November 02, 2012, 04:45:12 PM »
OK, I've had my engine for several years and it has moved with me several times since I got it. But I am now going to set it up and use it as backup power here in Houston. I built my frame last weekend and will be posting some pictures of things as I progress. I'm an ok shade tree mechanic, but not an expert and not a machinist. With that in mind I welcome any and all advice as I begin this journey. Nothing going to happen this weekend as I have a motorcycle rally to attend! To many hobbies!

Listeroid Engines / No change over (compression) Valves
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:54:10 PM »
I have a Lovson 12/2 which does not have a Compression Changeover Valve on either cylinder. How hard will this be to start in cold weather?

Would my best bet be to just install glow plugs?

Does anyone have a manual or parts diagram for the Lovson 12/2? I emailed Lovson but no reply yet.

Listeroid Engines / Engine cooling

Has anyone hooked up a radiator with a fan driven off of one of the fly wheels or a smaller pulley? If so, was it effective, and do you have any pictures of your set up?

Listeroid Engines / Engine base dimensions and belts
« on: September 06, 2012, 02:59:59 PM »
I have a Lovson 12/2 with a 7.5kw ST gen head. Its been sitting in my shop for a few years, and I am now getting serious about setting it up. I plan on using 6" I-Beam for the base, but am not sure of the length I will need to mount the engine and gen head for a reasonable belt length. I bought the cd from utterpower when I got the engine, but it does not have any details on base construction. Georges website has a few articles but no dimensions. What belts are you guys using?

Listeroid Engines / Is there a way to pin topics?
« on: April 26, 2009, 10:27:23 PM »
This is a great forum and has lots of useful information. It is not as organized as it could be though. Is there a way to pin the most important topics? For example have one that includes the best threads on balancing the engine, one for frame design, one for trouble shooting the engines etc? I'm trying to be helpful and do not want to offend anyone, just thought if there was a way to do this it would make searching and researching so much easier. There is no one way to do things and unless you know exactly what to search for you could miss the thread that really had the answer you need.

Lister Based Generators / 50hz to 60 hz??
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:00:38 AM »
If I were able to get an original lister generator/SOM what would be required to get 60 hz from it versus the 50 hz it was designed for? Rewind the generator? I know running it at a faster speed would work but I dont want to run the lister beyond what it was designed for. Please keep in mind I am electrically challenged. Forgive me if the answer is simple.

Listeroid Engines / Build your own SOM?
« on: September 29, 2006, 03:04:10 AM »
Given that I have a Lovson 12/2 and a PS ST gen head, and also that I am electrically challenged, could I build a SOM from this setup and how would I find all the required parts etc?

Listeroid Engines / Gen head suitability

I have a 12/2 still in crate and want to know if the 10kw head with welder terminals can be used with this engine? I understand that the 12/2 will not do 10KW but will the welder portion work?

Listeroid Engines / Spare Parts
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:50:28 AM »
Ok Fellas,

Post Up! Given the discussion on the various problems encountered with these engines, I thought it would be good to hear a list of essential spare parts that no self respecting listeroid owner should be with out. So post up and lets hear what you experts think. Also beyond the essentials how about nice to haves or money is no object items (no dont say another engine!) Just trying to educate myself, sorry if this has been addressed!

Has anyone heard of this or used it before? Is it worth it? I'm new to listers and alternative fuels so any help is appreciated!
